Our take
Xerox's U.S. brochure identifies the WorkCentre 6505N as a color multifunction model rated up to 24 pages per minute on Letter paper. It documents copy, scan, and fax functions, a 35-sheet ADF, a 250-sheet tray, USB, and Ethernet. The N suffix is important: automatic two-sided printing is optional on the 6505N and standard on the DN configuration. Xerox also describes wireless mobile printing through an optional adapter. Those are designed-feature distinctions, not evidence that any particular used unit includes an option or remains in working order.
A small wired office that needs color output and basic copy, scan, and fax functions but can handle single-sided printing or verify optional hardware..
Skip the N model if automatic duplex or built-in Wi-Fi is a must-have and the seller cannot document the exact installed options.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- Xerox documents color print, copy, scan, and fax functions for the 6505N.
- The 35-sheet ADF and 250-sheet tray support routine small-office document work.
- Standard Ethernet and USB provide wired and direct connection choices.
What to weigh up
- Automatic duplex is optional on the N model, unlike the DN configuration.
- Wireless printing requires a separate adapter rather than a standard built-in radio.
- The 40,000-page duty-cycle ceiling is not a recommended monthly workload.

What the features mean for you
This is the N all-in-one configuration
Xerox lists the WorkCentre 6505N as a color printer with copy, scan, and fax capabilities. Its exact configuration is different from the Phaser 6500 print-only models and from the WorkCentre 6505DN. That distinction helps when the buying need includes more than printing: the 6505N can consolidate document capture and telephone fax, while a print-only unit cannot. Check the rear and model label because marketplace listings sometimes combine family names, and the N suffix should match the machine being offered.
Automatic duplex is an option on the N suffix
The Xerox specification table marks automatic two-sided printing as optional for the WorkCentre 6505N and standard for the DN model. A buyer who prints recurring two-sided reports should not treat the family name as proof that the duplexer is installed. Confirm the exact model code and ask the seller to demonstrate a duplex job. Without the option, the machine can still print one-sided pages, but manually turning sheets adds handling and can slow longer document runs. The base N configuration therefore should not match an automatic-duplex requirement.
The feeder and tray suit moderate batches
Xerox specifies a 35-sheet ADF and a 250-sheet standard paper tray for the 6505N, with a separate one-sheet manual feed path. The feeder helps copy or scan stacks without placing each page on the glass, while the main tray holds a routine office supply. It is not a high-capacity paper system, so a busy shared queue may need frequent refills. The brochure describes the product design, not the current state of rollers, feeder belts, or optional tray hardware in a used listing.
Use Ethernet unless the wireless option is verified
Xerox lists USB 2.0 and 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet for the family. Mobile printing uses an optional Xerox Wireless Print Solutions Adapter, so the N model should not be described as having standard built-in Wi-Fi. Ethernet is a better fit for a fixed office network; a buyer who needs wireless should verify the exact adapter and supported setup. The 6505N is an older model, and current driver support, network security compatibility, and seller-supplied accessories are not established by the brochure.
Keep workload guidance separate from the duty-cycle maximum
Xerox publishes a maximum duty cycle of up to 40,000 pages per month for this family. The reviewed brochure does not give the 6505N a recommended monthly range, so that ceiling cannot be used as a routine target or a promise of refurbished life. Leave the workload profile unknown and compare your expected volume with exact manufacturer guidance if it becomes available. The model's tray, ADF, and listed speed help describe its workflow, but they do not establish cost, reliability, toner state, or present parts availability.
What else to compare
Compare a DN configuration when automatic duplex is essential, or a print-only color model if copy, scan, and fax are unnecessary.
