Our take
The DH559 is a legacy Full HD DLP projector with a published 3,200 ANSI-lumen rating, conventional zoom lens, and a useful set of wired connections. It fits a measured room with an external source better than a buyer seeking an integrated smart projector.
A conventional-throw room that can use Full HD video, older wired sources, or a compatible MHL device.
It is not an ultra-short-throw projector or an all-in-one streaming device. The older MHL feature needs a compatible external device and does not verify current app availability or phone support.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- Vivitek documents native 1920 × 1080 and 3,200 ANSI lumens.
- HDMI 1.4/MHL, VGA, audio, and RS-232 support multiple source and control paths.
- A manual 1.2:1 zoom allows placement within the documented conventional throw range.
What to weigh up
- The 1.22–1.46:1 lens needs more distance than a UST room may allow.
- MHL is an external-device link, not a current built-in streaming platform.
- Lamp history, present availability, and the condition of any used unit are unknown.

What the features mean for you
Does its native Full HD panel fit your content?
Vivitek specifies native 1920 × 1080 resolution in a 16:9 format, so the DH559 can display widescreen films, games, and high-definition computer sources without reducing them to an XGA panel. It can also accept computer formats that are resized to the projector's native image. That is useful when the same room switches between video and presentation use, but it does not make the projector 4K. Smaller text still benefits from checking the actual screen size and seating distance. A buyer with a legacy 4:3 source can use the listed compatibility modes, though bars or scaling may appear. Match the source output to the projector rather than assuming every accepted signal remains native.
Can the 3,200 ANSI-lumen rating help in the room?
Vivitek's legacy page identifies brightness as 3,200 ANSI lumens and lists a 20,000:1 full-on/full-off contrast ratio. The ANSI label lets this figure be compared with other models that also use an ANSI method. It does not promise that a years-old lamp still produces the original output. Vivitek lists lamp-life estimates by mode, including a Dynamic Eco rating, but the remaining life of a used projector depends on its actual hours and maintenance. Inspect the lamp warning, dust, focus, color uniformity, ventilation, and fan behavior of the specific unit. The rating can inform a room plan; the screen material, image size, and ambient light still determine how the picture looks to viewers.
How much throw distance should you measure?
The DH559 uses a 1.2:1 manual zoom and focus lens with a published throw ratio of 1.22–1.46:1. Vivitek lists image sizes from roughly 31 to 370 inches and projection distances from 1 to 10 metres. This is conventional projection geometry, not a close-wall ultra-short-throw installation. Before choosing it, measure from the lens to the screen and check the intended diagonal against a throw chart. The manual zoom provides some flexibility, but it cannot move the lens sideways or eliminate the need for a suitable mount. Vertical keystone correction is listed; use it only after the basic placement is as square as the room allows.
What do MHL and the other ports actually provide?
Vivitek documents HDMI 1.4 with MHL, VGA input and output, audio in and out, RS-232C, and a USB Type-A port for power. Its page describes MHL as a way for a compatible phone or tablet to send video and audio while charging. That is a wired external-device feature, not proof that the projector runs today's streaming apps. Device support can vary, so confirm the exact phone, adapter, cable, and content-protection requirements. The USB-A port is power-only and should not be treated as a file player. RS-232 can be useful in a controlled meeting-room system, while the simple 2-watt mono speaker may be less suited to a home theater than separate audio equipment.
Who should choose this legacy model?
The DH559 suits a buyer who already has an external HDMI source, enough throw distance, and a reason to use native Full HD plus the documented ANSI rating. A home viewer can connect a player; a meeting room can use HDMI or VGA and RS-232 control. An ultra-short-throw model is a better alternative when furniture cannot provide the DH559's lens distance, and a current smart projector is easier when built-in apps are essential. Vivitek labels this model legacy, so check local service options and the exact package rather than assuming it remains supported. Verify the model marking, lamp hours, remote, focus, ports, and fan before purchase. The review uses Vivitek documentation and makes no claim about a tested unit.
What else to compare
Compare a UST model if the projector must sit close to the screen, or a current smart model if app access without an external source is central.
Before you buy
Does the DH559 have an ANSI-labeled brightness rating?
Yes. Vivitek lists 3,200 ANSI lumens on its legacy product page; this does not describe an older unit's current lamp output.
Does MHL mean the DH559 has built-in streaming apps?
No. MHL connects a compatible external phone or tablet; the checked sources do not document an integrated app platform.
Is the DH559 suitable for a close-wall UST setup?
No. Its documented 1.22–1.46:1 throw ratio is conventional and needs substantially more distance than a UST lens.
