THE SHORT ANSWER

Our take

The PS600W is a fixed-lens, short-throw presentation projector with a native WXGA panel, dual HDMI and network/control connections. Its 0.49:1 ratio is useful when a conventional projector would have to sit too far back. ViewSonic first-party pages disagree between 3,500 and 3,700 ANSI lumens, so keep brightness unresolved instead of selecting the more favorable number.

Consider it for

For a wired presentation or education room that needs short throw but not a built-in app platform.

Look elsewhere if

Avoid it if the installation needs ultra-short throw, native Full HD, a standard included interactive pen system, built-in streaming apps or a single confirmed ANSI output figure.

Pros & cons

What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.

What works in its favor

  • The 0.49:1 ratio can create a large image from a short distance.
  • Native 1280 × 800 WXGA is specified, with two HDMI and two VGA inputs.
  • Ethernet, RS-232, USB and a 10 W speaker support a wired room plan.

What to weigh up

  • First-party output claims conflict between 3,500 and 3,700 ANSI lumens.
  • The fixed lens has no optical zoom for placement adjustment.
  • ViewSonic describes interactive use through an optional separate package.

Full review: how the features affect your choice

What the features mean for you

How short is its throw in a real room?

ViewSonic gives the PS600W a 0.49:1 throw ratio and fixed optical lens. Its product page lists an approximately 100-inch image at about 1.06 m, which can help when a standard projector would cast shadows or require a long rear shelf. The short-throw ratio is not an ultra-short-throw design, and the fixed lens means the installer cannot use zoom to compensate for every measurement error. Measure the board or screen width, image height and mount position before drilling. Leave access to power and data connections once the projector is installed.

What does WXGA resolve?

ViewSonic identifies the native panel as WXGA 1280 × 800 in 16:10. It can accept common high-definition source signals, but input compatibility does not turn the native panel into Full HD. The resolution is a practical fit for many presentations and classroom computer screens; small labels and detailed video still depend on image size, seating distance and source quality. If a room needs native Full HD, compare a model documented at 1920 horizontal pixels. For a 16:10 laptop or whiteboard source, the PS600W's native format may match the content without implying a higher panel resolution.

Which brightness number can be trusted?

The current ViewSonic US product page lists 3,700 ANSI lumens; an older ViewSonic datasheet lists 3,500 ANSI lumens for the PS600W. Both sources are first-party, and the reviewed documents do not explain whether the difference reflects a revision or a changed listing. The profile therefore leaves the comparable ANSI field unknown. This avoids placing one number into a threshold-based result without resolving the conflict. Buyers who need a contractual output target should verify the exact unit and revision with ViewSonic or a seller before comparing it with a projector whose ANSI rating is consistent across its current documentation.

Does the network connection provide apps?

The PS600W includes two HDMI and two VGA inputs, Ethernet, USB service/power, RS-232 and audio connections. ViewSonic calls it networkable and describes room control; neither term proves a smart-TV platform or streaming apps. Connect a computer, media player or HDMI streaming device if online services are needed. The integrated 10 W speaker may simplify a small room but does not define a full sound system. The fixed lens and substantial port selection make it more appropriate for a planned wired installation than for moving between rooms.

How should the lamp and optional interaction be handled?

ViewSonic lists a 200 W lamp with rated life of 5,000 hours in normal mode and 15,000 in SuperEco. Ask for the lamp counter and replacement record on a used projector; mode and prior service affect remaining life. ViewSonic also says an optional vTouch package can add interactive use. That is a separate accessory, not a reason to assume an interactive pen is included with the standard PS600W candidate. Confirm the package, software, mount and calibration equipment before counting on annotation. The lamp, fixed throw and uncertain brightness revision should all be checked against the room plan.

Compare for your needs

The Dell S500wi is a 0.3:1 ultra-short-throw classroom model with documented interactive pen support and a 3,200 ANSI rating. The PS600W is a fixed 0.49:1 short-throw model with conflicting ViewSonic brightness figures and optional interaction.

Find my match

Before you buy

Is the PS600W ultra-short throw?

No. ViewSonic documents a 0.49:1 short-throw lens; its source does not describe it as ultra-short throw.

Is the brightness 3,500 or 3,700 ANSI lumens?

ViewSonic's reviewed datasheet and product page conflict, so the profile leaves a single comparable ANSI value unresolved.

Does the standard projector include interactive pens?

ViewSonic describes an optional interactive package; check the exact bundle before assuming pen hardware is included.
