Our take
The Optoma DS326 is an older DLP presentation projector whose technical sheet specifies native SVGA 800 × 600, 2600 ANSI lumens, a 1.95–2.15:1 throw range, and 1.1× manual zoom. It also lists frame-sequential 3D up to 720p, a 2 W mono speaker, and a replaceable 180 W lamp. The ANSI label and throw make its room role measurable, but SVGA is a low-detail image for today's widescreen movies and fine text. It makes most sense where a legacy signal chain and existing room setup justify keeping the format.
A classroom or meeting room that still uses legacy sources and can accommodate a conventional long-throw projector..
It is not for native HD or 4K detail, a close-wall placement, built-in streaming, battery use, or a large-room sound system.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- Optoma's datasheet explicitly states 2600 ANSI lumens and native SVGA resolution.
- A 1.95–2.15:1 throw and 1.1× zoom give a planner a defined conventional placement range.
- The manufacturer lists limited 720p frame-sequential 3D support for compatible sources.
What to weigh up
- Native 800 × 600 has much less detail than WXGA and Full HD panels.
- The 2 W mono speaker offers little headroom for a noisy or large room.
- A 180 W lamp needs maintenance, and original brightness does not reveal the condition of an older unit.

Full review: how the features affect your choice
What the features mean for you
What can SVGA show clearly?
The DS326's native image is 800 × 600 pixels in a 4:3 format. That can remain workable for large-font office slides or legacy computer material, but it is far below native HD and less suited to widescreen films, fine diagrams, or small spreadsheet labels. A supported 720p signal does not turn the physical panel into HD; the projector scales it to SVGA. Check what the source material actually looks like at the planned screen size and seat distance. If detail is important, compare a higher native resolution before focusing on the ANSI rating.
How to interpret 2600 ANSI lumens
Optoma's DS326 datasheet labels the 2600-lumen rating ANSI, giving it a defined measurement basis for comparison. The specification is a model rating and does not establish the present output of a used lamp projector. Picture mode, lamp wear, screen size, ambient light, dust, and optical condition still affect the image. Ask the seller for lamp hours and inspect the picture in the intended room. The datasheet's stated rating should not be turned into a promise about a particular secondhand unit, or used to overlook the limitations of its low native resolution.
Does the throw match the room?
Optoma gives the DS326 a 1.95–2.15:1 throw range and 1.1× manual zoom. This is conventional long-throw placement, so the projector needs more distance from the screen than an ultra-short-throw model. Measure the lens position to the screen and compare the image size with the manufacturer's table before selecting a ceiling mount. The zoom range offers some framing latitude after installation but does not provide lens shift. Mount the chassis square to the image and use keystone only as a minor correction rather than a substitute for planning.
What does the 3D specification mean?
The DS326 datasheet lists 120 Hz frame-sequential 3D up to 720p. That is a narrow, source-dependent feature: the computer or player, glasses, refresh mode, and content all need to be compatible. It should not be described as native-resolution 3D or support for every modern 3D format. If the projector will be used for ordinary slides, the 3D line may have little value; if a classroom has existing compatible equipment, it can extend that setup. Verify the exact input mode and glasses before replacing a working system.
What should be checked on a used DS326?
The sheet specifies a 180 W replaceable lamp and a 2 W mono speaker. Check lamp hours, fan and filter condition, color uniformity, focus, the zoom ring, and all inputs that remain relevant to the room. The small speaker may be adequate for nearby narration but is not a substitute for amplified classroom audio. The document describes the original specification and does not confirm the accessories in an individual offer. This review is source-based and does not claim a personal test or current marketplace condition. Keep adapters and external sound in the installation plan if the room uses modern devices.
Compare for your needs
For a higher-detail business projector, compare BenQ MW721's WXGA panel; for native Full HD short-throw home use, compare Optoma GT1080.

Before you buy
Is the DS326 native 720p?
No. Optoma specifies native SVGA 800 × 600; 720p support is a compatible frame-sequential 3D input mode.
Is its 2600-lumen rating ANSI?
Yes. The Optoma-authored DS326 datasheet labels the value as 2600 ANSI lumens.
What throw does the DS326 use?
Its datasheet gives a conventional 1.95–2.15:1 throw range with 1.1× manual zoom.
