Our take
LG PA77U combines a native WXGA LED projector with Smart TV features and a Magic Remote. The owner manual specifies 1280 × 800 pixels, a 16:10 image, a 30–100-inch range at 0.90–3.06 m, built-in 3 W + 3 W audio and a 19.5 V adapter. That gives it a more integrated source concept than a projector that only accepts HDMI, but it is an older smart platform and the current status of any particular app should be checked. A retailer's 700-lumen figure is not established as ANSI by the checked LG documentation.
A compact room setup where built-in legacy Smart TV functions and native WXGA suit the content.
Avoid it if you require a verified ANSI rating, confirmed battery operation, current guaranteed streaming apps, native Full HD, or a wall-adjacent ultra-short-throw installation.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- The owner manual confirms native 1280 × 800 WXGA rather than an input-only resolution claim.
- LG documents Smart TV features and a Magic Remote as part of the projector design.
- The 30–100-inch image range and integrated 3 W + 3 W speakers support compact all-in-one setup.
What to weigh up
- The listed 700 lumens are not proven to use the ANSI method.
- Legacy Smart TV functions do not guarantee that current streaming apps or services still work.
- The portable label and adapter input do not establish a built-in battery.

Full review: how the features affect your choice
What the features mean for you
Use WXGA for wide-format viewing and slides
LG's owner manual specifies a native 1280 × 800 image in 16:10. That wide computer format gives documents and presentations more horizontal room than a 4:3 panel, while remaining below Full HD. The manual's supported input modes do not change that native pixel grid. Small text and detailed video will look less finely resolved than on a native 1920 × 1080 projector, especially if the image is pushed toward the upper end of the 100-inch range. Match the image size to the room and viewing distance rather than relying on the Smart TV feature to imply higher detail.
Do not convert an unqualified lumen number
A retailer listing states 700 lumens, but the checked LG specification does not label this as ANSI. The matcher therefore has no supported ANSI value for the PA77U. Keep that measurement distinction visible when comparing it with products whose makers specify ANSI output. Actual visibility depends on room light, screen size, color settings and the condition of a particular projector. For a used unit, a picture check is valuable, but it cannot retroactively turn the published lumen figure into an ANSI rating. Consider a controlled, darker room until output is established through a reliable source.
Measure the ordinary throw range
The owner manual gives a 30–100-inch image at about 0.90–3.06 metres. That is a conventional placement range, not a near-wall ultra-short-throw design. Measure from the lens and check both the image size and the cabinet clearance before placing a shelf or mount. The checked source set does not establish optical lens shift, so a mounting point that is too high or too far to one side may be difficult to correct without moving the projector. Its 16:10 shape should also be considered alongside the screen shape and content.
Verify the Smart TV functions you actually need
LG advertises Smart TV features and a Magic Remote, which can reduce dependence on an external player when the built-in software still supports the desired service. The product page describes the model as a smart projector, but it cannot guarantee the present-day app catalog or account compatibility on an old unit. Confirm the exact service before purchase and consider an HDMI streaming device as a fallback. Built-in 3 W + 3 W speakers provide basic local audio, while a larger room or group may benefit from separate sound equipment.
Treat portability as size, not battery evidence
LG calls the PA77U portable, and the owner manual lists a 19.5 V adapter. Those details support carrying and positioning the projector, but the checked model sources do not establish an internal battery or battery runtime. Plan for external power unless the exact unit's approved battery configuration is verified. Also inspect the lens, fan, adapter, remote and HDMI connections. The original product information documents the model design; it does not establish current stock, exact accessories, lamp-free condition or the functional state of a particular used unit.
Compare for your needs
Epson Home Cinema 3600e is native Full HD and offers optical lens shift, zoom and a wireless HDMI transmitter. Epson's 2,500 white/color lumen figures are also not ANSI, while the LG PA77U's checked 700-lumen listing lacks an ANSI basis.

Before you buy
Is the PA77U native 1080p?
No. LG's owner manual specifies native 1280 × 800 WXGA; accepting a 1080p input would not change the panel.
Does it have built-in smart functions?
LG advertises Smart TV features and a Magic Remote, but current app compatibility should be checked for the exact service.
Can its 700-lumen listing be compared as ANSI?
Not from the checked sources. The 700-lumen listing is not identified as an ANSI measurement.

The decision
The PA77U's integrated Smart TV concept and WXGA format may suit a compact room, provided the app you need still works. Brightness method, battery use and current software support remain limits.
