Our take
IPEVO VZ-R is an overhead document camera with a useful second connection path: USB for camera input or direct HDMI output for a display. Autofocus and an integrated LED simplify close-up demonstrations, but its documented live ceiling is Full HD at 30 fps.
A teacher or presenter who needs a physical overhead view of documents and objects, plus the option of a direct HDMI display path or USB camera input..
Not for a confirmed 4K or 1080p60 webcam stream, a published diagonal face-view angle, or a documented built-in microphone, speaker, or physical lens shutter.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- The official specification distinguishes USB capture up to 3264×2448 from HDMI output up to 1920×1080 and live Full HD up to 30 fps.
- Autofocus, an articulated overhead stand, and an integrated LED support showing pages and objects.
- The exact Amazon page identifies the VZ-R and model CDVH-03IP rather than relying on a family-name match.
What to weigh up
- The 8MP USB capture figure does not establish 4K live video, and the documented Full HD rate is 30 fps.
- IPEVO does not publish a diagonal field angle for face-first framing.
- The checked product materials do not establish a microphone, speaker, lens cover, or cover-linked audio cutoff.

Full review: how the features affect your choice
What the features mean for you
Treat VZ-R as a document camera first
IPEVO positions VZ-R around an overhead arm and a camera head that can be set above a page, object, or demonstration surface. That makes it different from a small monitor-top webcam: the stand helps place the lens above the material being shown, while its base and articulated head let the presenter adjust the view manually. The official product page identifies the model as VZ-R and the exact Amazon item identifies CDVH-03IP. The manufacturer also lists a three-year warranty. These are documentary features, not a claim that the camera has been tested in a particular classroom or software setup.
Do not turn the pixel count into a 4K claim
IPEVO lists an 8MP sensor and USB capture resolution up to 3264×2448, as well as HDMI output up to 1920×1080. Its live Full HD specification is up to 30 frames per second. The 3264×2448 figure is a different capture-size statement; it is not the standard 3840×2160 4K video mode, and the checked page does not attach a frame rate to it as a call stream. For this guide, the highest documented live-video height is 1080 pixels, 1080p60 is not supported in the published Full HD mode, and an unspecified lower-resolution 60 fps mode remains unknown.
Autofocus and an LED help with close demonstrations
The maker lists autofocus and an integrated LED. Together with the overhead arm, those features can help a presenter move between a printed page and a nearby object without turning the setup into a face-only camera. IPEVO gives maximum capture-area dimensions for different aspect ratios, but those are document coverage measurements rather than a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal lens field. No numeric diagonal field angle is published, so this model should not be ranked by the webcam finder's wide-angle cutoff. The product materials also do not describe automatic subject tracking; the presenter positions the camera head and stand manually.
Choose USB or HDMI for the room you have
VZ-R can feed a computer over USB or send video directly over HDMI. The direct HDMI route is useful when a display is the destination and a computer is not needed in the video path; USB is the route for using it as a camera in a compatible meeting or teaching app. The included USB cable connects the camera's USB-C port to USB-A. IPEVO says some USB-C iPads on iPadOS 17 or later can use the external-camera path, but support depends on the app recognizing an external camera. A USB-C iPad connector alone does not guarantee that every app exposes the camera.
Check audio and privacy separately
The VZ-R materials reviewed here do not document an integrated microphone or playback speaker, so plan on the computer, display system, or separate audio device to handle sound. The checked sources also do not describe a physical lens cover or a switch that stops audio when the camera is covered. That leaves both cover presence and audio-mute behavior unknown rather than absent. A document camera often points toward a tabletop instead of a person, but angle of use is not a substitute for a verified privacy control.
Verify cables and host behavior before a lesson
The exact Amazon page identifies B088NGLQL4 as VZ-R and lists the camera's USB cable, but it does not include an HDMI cable or power adapter. IPEVO's support page says the device can work with Mac, PC, and Chromebook systems and describes limited iPad use through supported external-camera apps. Those compatibility statements do not guarantee the same capture modes or controls in every conferencing application. Confirm which connection the room needs, provide an HDMI cable if using the display output, and check the chosen app before relying on the setup for a class.
Compare for your needs
For a fixed-focus face-first camera with a documented 1080p60 mode and physical cover, compare the OKIOLABS A6. It does not provide VZ-R's overhead arm or direct HDMI display path.

Before you buy
Does the VZ-R stream 4K video because it has an 8MP sensor?
No. IPEVO lists USB capture up to 3264×2448 but documents live Full HD up to 30 fps and HDMI up to 1920×1080. The higher pixel count is not a documented 4K webcam video mode.
Can it send a picture directly to a display?
Yes. IPEVO documents an HDMI output up to 1920×1080. The Amazon box description does not include an HDMI cable, so supply one if needed.
Does it have a built-in microphone or physical shutter?
The checked IPEVO specifications do not establish a microphone, speaker, physical lens cover, or audio cutoff, so those features remain unknown.
Will it work with an iPad?
IPEVO says some USB-C iPads on iPadOS 17 or later can use it in apps that accept external cameras. App support is required; the connector by itself does not guarantee compatibility.
