THE SHORT ANSWER

Our take

The InFocus IN3138HD is an older professional projector whose manufacturer-authored datasheet describes native 1920 × 1080, 4,000 ANSI lumens, DLP imaging, and broad meeting-room connectivity. DisplayPort, HDMI, two VGA inputs, S-Video, composite, network control, and a 10 W speaker give it more installation flexibility than a home-only model with two HDMI inputs. Its lamp, acoustic noise, and long conventional throw are real room-planning costs. The datasheet is a saved model document, not proof of current retail status, present lamp output, or condition of an individual unit.

Consider it for

A meeting room or classroom that needs Full HD, a stated ANSI figure, and mixed legacy and digital inputs.

Look elsewhere if

It is not a battery or close-wall projector, and its lamp, 37 dB standard-mode noise, and long throw may be awkward in a quiet small room.

Pros & cons

What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.

What works in its favor

  • The exact datasheet lists native Full HD and a 4,000 ANSI-lumen rating.
  • HDMI and DisplayPort sit alongside dual VGA, S-Video, composite, and network control.
  • A 10 W speaker and documented 3D support suit some classrooms and legacy meeting spaces.

What to weigh up

  • The 1.58–1.92:1 lens needs substantial throw distance for a large screen.
  • The lamp is rated for 3,000 hours standard or 4,000 hours Eco and needs an exact-unit check.
  • Standard-mode noise is listed at 37 dB, which can be noticeable near a quiet audience.

What the features mean for you

Use the native panel figure, not the input list

InFocus calls the IN3138HD a native Full HD 1080p projector and identifies a 1920 × 1080 DLP device. The datasheet separately lists compatible computer and video formats, so accepted inputs should not be mistaken for the panel's native detail. A 16:9 source can use the panel shape directly, while older 4:3 material can still be connected with different framing. This is a useful distinction for a training room that presents small text and video. Check the exact unit's focus across the image and confirm that its model plate says IN3138HD rather than a nearby IN313x variant.

Treat 4,000 ANSI as a model rating

The manufacturer datasheet states 4,000 ANSI lumens in standard mode and 3,500 ANSI lumens in Eco mode. That explicit basis makes it more comparable with projectors whose makers also state ANSI output. It does not say what a used lamp now delivers or guarantee readability in a sunlit room at every image size. The same document lists lamp life of 3,000 hours in standard mode and 4,000 in Eco, with conditions affecting the result. Ask for the lamp counter and test the image with the presentation material and room lights that matter to your use.

Check the lens distance before installation

The 1.58–1.92:1 throw range places this model in a conventional installation. InFocus's distance chart puts a 100-inch 16:9 image about 3.5 to 4.25 metres from the lens. That is a useful starting measurement for a ceiling mount or rear shelf, but it leaves no promise that the projector will fit every room or screen frame. Measure from the lens and account for the screen's actual diagonal, mount position, and cable route. The datasheet describes manual zoom and focus, not an ultra-short-throw lens; if there is not enough depth, compare a different placement class.

Keep older source equipment connected

The IN3138HD's input panel includes DisplayPort and HDMI 1.4a, two VGA connections, S-Video, composite video, stereo audio inputs, and RJ45 network control. That combination can help a room retain older laptops or video equipment while adding a newer computer. It also means the buyer should map each source to a real port and verify any adapter, HDCP chain, control system, and output resolution. The datasheet lists RS-232 and a 12 V screen trigger as well. Those are installation features, not a built-in streaming platform, so use an external player for current apps and check its exact compatibility.

Account for lamp upkeep, sound, and 3D

InFocus documents support for several 3D formats and 144 Hz DLP-Link glasses, which can be relevant for a classroom or a legacy media source. The same projector is a 340 W lamp model; the datasheet lists a 10 W mono speaker and standard-mode fan noise of 37 dB. These details change where it is comfortable to place the unit and whether separate sound is needed. A lamp replacement part is named in the old document, but current parts access is not established. Inspect the lamp timer, air path, lens, remote, fan, inputs, and image uniformity on the exact device before relying on the published model specifications.

What else to compare

Compare Optoma HD27e for a home-focused 1080p layout with a 10 W speaker, or Epson PowerLite X15 for a meeting projector with HDMI and a different color/white brightness basis.

Before you buy

Does the IN3138HD have native 1080p imaging?

Yes. The InFocus-authored datasheet lists a native 1920 × 1080 DLP panel for the IN3138HD.

Is the 4,000-lumen figure an ANSI rating?

Yes. InFocus labels 4,000 lumens as ANSI in standard mode and 3,500 ANSI lumens in Eco mode.

How far back should it sit for a 100-inch image?

The datasheet chart gives about 3.5–4.25 metres for 100 inches; confirm the lens position and screen geometry.
