Our take
The InFocus IN3116 is a business projector whose main advantage is a clearly documented WXGA panel and a connector set designed for an installed presentation system. InFocus’s manual explicitly distinguishes its 1280 × 800 resolution from the sibling IN3114’s 1024 × 768. HDMI and two VGA inputs sit alongside USB DisplayLink, LAN control, LitePort, S-Video, composite, and RS-232. This broad set may reduce extra switchers in an older room, but the throw still needs measuring and current lamp condition is unknown.
A fixed presentation room that needs native WXGA, wired network control, or legacy VGA and USB workflows.
It is not for a native Full HD movie image, ultra-short-throw placement, built-in streaming apps, battery use, or an ANSI-lumen threshold not documented by the manual.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- The manual clearly identifies IN3116 as native WXGA 1280 × 800 rather than the IN3114 sibling.
- HDMI, dual VGA, LAN, USB DisplayLink, and LitePort support varied presentation routines.
- A model-specific distance table helps compare the projector position with a planned screen size.
What to weigh up
- Native WXGA is below Full HD and does not provide modern movie detail.
- The guide’s throw table reflects conventional room placement, not a short-wall design.
- Its lamp and aged connectors require inspection; the checked guide does not give an ANSI rating.

What the features mean for you
Why does the IN3116 model suffix matter?
The InFocus user guide covers both IN3114 and IN3116, but assigns them different native panels: XGA 1024 × 768 for IN3114 and WXGA 1280 × 800 for IN3116. That distinction affects how widescreen laptop slides fill a 16:10 surface and how much fine text remains legible. Do not use an IN3114 product page to fill gaps in the IN3116 record. Check the model label on the actual projector and select a native-resolution setting that suits its panel; higher accepted computer modes are resized rather than turned into additional native pixels.
Can its connector panel simplify a presentation room?
InFocus lists HDMI, two VGA inputs, S-Video, composite, separate audio inputs, USB DisplayLink, LAN control, LitePort JPEG playback, audio out, and RS-232. The combination can serve a room with more than one computer and a control system, while LitePort can show JPEG files from a USB drive. Those connections are not equivalent to a built-in streaming service or a general-purpose USB media player. Map every present source and cable before buying. A modern computer may still need an adapter, and the LAN connection is for control rather than an app store.
How should the throw table guide the installation?
The manual gives distances for common screen diagonals, including separate minimum and maximum positions for the IN3116. Use the row for the intended image size and measure from the lens to the screen. The table is more useful than assuming a shelf position from the projector body dimensions. InFocus describes ceiling mounting and ventilation clearances, but a mount must still fit the ceiling and leave service access. This is standard long-throw placement, not UST. The checked guide does not confirm optical lens shift, so position the projector carefully rather than expecting the lens to correct an off-center bracket.
What can be said about brightness and maintenance?
The reviewed manual does not provide an ANSI-lumen value to use for a brightness threshold. This leaves the matching attribute unknown even if third-party listings use unlabeled lumen numbers. The manual identifies a lamp-based projector and gives lamp safety and replacement guidance. On a used unit, ask for the lamp-hour counter, inspect the filter and vents, and watch an image long enough to notice flicker or uneven color. The original lamp-life estimate cannot establish the remaining service life of a specific projector. For a classroom, compare the unit in the actual room rather than assuming its past rating persists.
Is its older control system still useful?
The IN3116 can be a reasonable replacement when the room still uses VGA, a serial control cable, or network management and benefits from keeping those routines intact. Its 16:10 panel is wider than an XGA unit, although below Full HD. InFocus also lists optional adapters and accessories, so verify what is included rather than assuming a wireless adapter or ceiling mount ships with a used projector. Test HDMI and the room’s oldest source separately. If the installation is being rebuilt around modern HDMI-only devices and movies, a newer Full HD model may be easier to maintain.
What else to compare
For native 1080p and HDMI/DVI inputs, compare Acer H9500BD; for native SVGA with an explicitly ANSI-labeled rating, compare Optoma DS322.
Before you buy
What is the IN3116’s native resolution?
InFocus says the IN3116 is WXGA at 1280 × 800; its IN3114 sibling is the XGA version.
Does the manual establish ANSI brightness?
No. The reviewed InFocus guide does not provide an ANSI-lumen value for the IN3116.
Does its LAN port provide streaming apps?
The manual describes LAN control and a web server; it does not document an integrated streaming-app platform.
