THE SHORT ANSWER

Our take

Shortlist the IN3114 for a fixed or cart-based presentation room where its XGA image, 3500-ANSI rating, HDMI 1.3, VGA, and control connections match existing equipment. Inspect a particular unit before depending on it.

Consider it for

A classroom or conference room with a compatible legacy source mix and a measured conventional-throw position.

Look elsewhere if

Avoid it for native Full HD or 4K detail, battery operation, modern streaming, ultra-short placement, or a buyer unwilling to check an old lamp projector.

Pros & cons

What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.

What works in its favor

  • A 3500-ANSI normal-mode rating with a documented 2800-lumen eco mode.
  • The original sheet lists HDMI 1.3, dual VGA, composite, S-Video, DisplayLink, and network control.
  • Two 5-watt speakers and a seven-pound chassis suit occasional room-to-room movement.

What to weigh up

  • Native 1024 × 768 XGA limits widescreen detail and fine desktop text.
  • A 280-watt UHP lamp makes hours and condition important on a used machine.
  • The 1.62–1.95 throw range is conventional rather than short throw.

What the features mean for you

A meeting-room tool, not a current home cinema model

InFocus positioned the IN3114 within its IN3100 series for business and education, and the listed connection panel supports that use. The seven-pound body is portable enough for a cart or occasional move, but it is a mains-powered lamp projector rather than a battery device. Its role is strongest when an organization already has video, VGA, or network-control paths in place. For movies at home, current streaming, or a quiet fixed installation, newer product classes are easier to match to those needs.

XGA clarity is the central trade-off

The IN3114's native format is 1024 × 768 with a 4:3 aspect ratio. That can be adequate for older slide decks or materials designed for XGA, but widescreen sources and dense text will not have the same detail as a native Full HD or WXGA model. It accepts higher video modes, which does not change its native pixel grid. If the source is a current laptop, use the intended desktop resolution and test charts or small type on the actual screen before standardizing on this projector.

ANSI output is useful only with lamp context

The InFocus product sheet rates normal-mode brightness at 3500 ANSI lumens and eco mode at 2800. Those labels make the published output more directly comparable than an unspecified LED-lumen claim. The sheet also specifies a 280-watt UHP lamp with rated life of 3000 hours normal and 4000 hours eco. They are model ratings, not a forecast for remaining lamp life or measured brightness on a secondhand unit. Ask for the displayed lamp-hour counter and check image uniformity before purchase.

Room distance and source support need checking

A manual 1.2x zoom and 1.62–1.95 throw ratio give the IN3114 some room for placement adjustment, but it is not designed to sit next to the screen. Measure the throw distance and image width first. The data sheet lists HDMI 1.3, two D-sub VGA inputs, S-Video, composite, USB/DisplayLink, audio inputs, and network control. That is a flexible old panel for mixed equipment, but DisplayLink software or control integrations may need maintenance. Test the precise ports and drivers your room depends on.

Inspect the exact used unit and bundle

The saved model sources identify a discontinued IN3114; they do not confirm the historical Amazon item as a current exact listing. Before buying, verify the model plate, lamp hours, focus across the corners, fan behavior, input switching, and remote. A 7-pound chassis is still substantial enough that shipping damage and missing cables deserve attention. The manufacturer specification sheet lists several accessories, but that is not proof that a seller includes them. Use the tagged model search as discovery and verify the actual package with the seller.

What else to compare

The InFocus IN1102 is lighter and WXGA but has fewer modern connections. Optoma X303 and EP770 are XGA alternatives with different input panels and throw ranges.

Before you buy

Does the IN3114 display native 1080p?

No. The InFocus sheet identifies the native image as XGA 1024 × 768. Accepting a higher input mode does not make the native image Full HD.

Is 3500 the eco-mode brightness?

No. The specification sheet gives 3500 ANSI lumens in normal mode and 2800 lumens in eco mode.

Will it fit close to the screen?

Its 1.62–1.95 throw ratio is conventional projector placement. Measure the lens-to-screen distance rather than treating it as short throw.

The decision

The IN3114 remains relevant only when its bright rated output and legacy connections fit a real room requirement. Its XGA limit and used-lamp condition should be part of the decision.
