Our take
The InFocus IN3106 is a conventional-throw WXGA projector for presentations and wired video. InFocus's series brochure specifies 1280 × 800 native pixels, up to 3000 ANSI lumens, a 1.56–1.72:1 throw, 1.1× manual zoom, and a replaceable lamp. The model manual covers HDMI, VGA, DisplayLink, composite, and S-Video sources. That mix may help with legacy equipment, though current computers may need adapters or DisplayLink software. The 7-pound body is movable between rooms but not battery-powered. Check lamp hours, inputs, and source compatibility before buying a used unit.
Portable AC presentation or home video in a room with conventional throw distance and wired source devices.
It is not for native Full HD or 4K, a battery-powered setup, UST placement, or a cable-free streaming-first room.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- The IN3106 brochure lists native WXGA 1280 × 800 and 3000 ANSI lumens.
- A 1.1× zoom and 1.56–1.72:1 throw offer modest adjustment within a measured room.
- HDMI, VGA, DisplayLink, composite, and S-Video support varied source generations.
What to weigh up
- Its 1.56–1.72:1 range requires conventional distance from the screen.
- The 230 W lamp needs age and condition checks on a used unit.
- DisplayLink and analog inputs may require drivers or adapters with newer computers.

What the features mean for you
WXGA is a practical presentation format
The IN3100 brochure names the IN3106 specifically as native WXGA 1280 × 800 with a default 16:10 format. That gives a computer slide or desktop a broad workspace and more vertical pixels than XGA, while remaining below Full HD. The model manual says it can display both business presentations and home video, so the role is not limited to a conference room. Still, viewers who need detailed 1080p movie imagery or small text across a large screen should compare native Full HD models. Do not treat maximum accepted resolution as native output. Verify the unit's focus and image uniformity at the intended screen size.
The 3000 ANSI-lumen rating has a named basis
InFocus lists up to 3000 ANSI lumens for the IN3106 and 2400 lumens in ECO mode. Because the brochure names ANSI, the standard figure can be compared with other models whose makers use the same method. The ECO figure is lower and may suit a darker room or a quieter operating setting. Neither number describes the remaining output of an older lamp. Ask for the projector's lamp-hour count, inspect its brightness and color, and check warning indicators before relying on a used unit. A screen and room still influence visibility; the 3000 rating is a product specification rather than a promise for every setup.
Measure the throw before moving to a new room
The brochure gives the IN3106 a 1.56–1.72:1 throw ratio, a 1.1:1 manual zoom, and a 5.11-foot minimum projection distance. This is a conventional lens, not a close-wall option. Use the ratio with the desired image width to estimate the distance, then check the manual's placement chart and ceiling mount location. Manual zoom and focus offer some adjustment but do not provide optical lens shift. Digital keystone can correct minor geometry, but direct alignment avoids relying on processing. If the room has limited depth, compare the Acer S5201M's 0.61:1 classroom lens or another model with a verified short throw.
The connector set is broad but from an older era
The model manual lists HDMI, two VGA inputs, USB DisplayLink, composite, and S-Video, along with audio inputs and output. That can connect a mix of newer and older equipment, but DisplayLink may need a driver, and some current laptops no longer have VGA. A direct HDMI path is simplest for a modern source. The documents do not identify a built-in app platform or battery, so plan for a mains outlet and an external computer, receiver, or media player. Check whether your audio stays over HDMI or needs a separate cable. Test each input and source mode on a used projector before relying on it for a meeting.
Lamp maintenance and portability set the ownership trade
InFocus rates the IN3106's lamp for 3000 hours normal and 4000 ECO in the series brochure. Lamp replacement is a service task, and the manual instructs owners to power down, unplug, and allow the unit to cool before opening the lamp door. At about seven pounds, it can move from one room to another, but it needs AC power and is not a pocket projector. Compare Optoma TW330 for similar WXGA presentation use, or BenQ MX620ST if the room needs closer placement. Choose based on exact distance, input requirements, and lamp condition, not the old listing title or an assumed current offer.
What else to compare
Compare Optoma TW330 for another WXGA presentation projector with HDMI, or BenQ MX620ST for a short-throw classroom layout.
