Our take
The HP LaserJet Enterprise M612dn is a monochrome print-only model for a wired office that has a substantial recurring queue. HP rates Letter output up to 75 pages per minute and recommends 5,000 to 30,000 pages per month. Standard equipment includes automatic duplex, a 100-sheet multipurpose tray, a 550-sheet input tray, Gigabit Ethernet and USB. Wi-Fi is available only through an optional accessory, so the dn configuration should be treated as a wired network printer unless that hardware is separately verified.
A wired enterprise print queue with recurring high-volume monochrome jobs, automatic duplex and a published 5,000–30,000 monthly recommendation..
Choose a smaller personal printer for light use, or another configuration if built-in wireless, copy, scan or fax functions are required.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- HP's 75-ppm Letter rating suits a queue where many monochrome pages arrive regularly.
- The standard duplexer and 650-sheet input reduce manual handling and paper refills.
- Gigabit Ethernet and a 5,000–30,000 recommended monthly range support a defined wired workgroup role.
What to weigh up
- The M612dn is print-only and does not add copy, scan or fax capability.
- Built-in wireless is not standard; HP lists wireless as an optional hardware accessory.
- The 300,000-page duty-cycle maximum is not a replacement for the lower recommended range.

Full review: how the features affect your choice
What the features mean for you
Use the rated pace for a busy monochrome queue
HP rates the M612dn at up to 75 pages per minute on Letter. That is a useful comparison point for long text and form queues, not a guaranteed time for every document. Job complexity, print settings, network conditions and device state affect actual output. Its function set is print-only, which keeps the choice focused: it is suited to an office that wants to send jobs to a fast central printer rather than asking the same machine to scan or make copies.
Keep two-sided jobs automatic
Automatic duplex is standard on the M612dn. It can turn pages internally for recurring double-sided reports and reduce the need for someone to separate, flip and reload a stack. HP's Letter speed rating describes a different measurement from duplex images per minute, so do not assume two-sided packets will finish at the same pace as simplex pages. For a shared queue, the value is fewer manual steps, not an unsupported claim about a fixed page count per hour.
Standard trays provide a 650-sheet starting supply
HP lists a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and a 550-sheet input tray as standard. That gives the printer a 650-sheet baseline before optional feeders. A larger optional tray can change the installed capacity, but it should not be counted unless the exact seller unit includes it. Check that paper guides, the multipurpose feed and the duplex path are present and working when buying used; the original specification describes the model, not the current state of an individual machine.
Use Gigabit Ethernet as the standard network path
HP lists Gigabit Ethernet and USB as standard. Wireless station and Wi-Fi Direct functions need a separate HP Jetdirect accessory, so wireless should not be selected as a confirmed built-in feature for the M612dn. This distinction matters when a printer is expected to sit away from an Ethernet drop or serve a wireless-only office. Confirm the accessory part and install state if it is important; a product-family option list does not prove that an accessory came with a particular device.
Use the recommendation, not the duty-cycle ceiling
HP's recommended monthly range is 5,000 to 30,000 pages; the much larger duty-cycle maximum is a separate robustness measure. The recommendation is the more useful workload guide when comparing office printers. A routine below that band is not automatically impossible, but the M612dn may be more device than a light desk needs. No current price, toner offer, inventory or claimed condition is included, and the expected workload remains a buyer-specific estimate.
Compare for your needs
Choose an MFP if the same users need scanning or copying, or a wireless model when optional Jetdirect hardware is not suitable.
