Our take
Holmes HTF38138-BM is an exact black 38-inch tower-fan model with eight speeds, remote, oscillation and an automatic shutoff timer.
Consider HTF38138-BM when eight speeds and remote control are useful, after checking the model suffix and any required timer duration..
Not for buyers who require a known timer duration, exact electrical input, numeric sweep angle, confirmed Amazon offer or tested airflow and noise.

What the features mean for you
An exact black variant is identified
Best Buy's exact-model listing identifies Holmes HTF38138-BM as a black 38-inch tower fan. Holmes' official manual index separately lists an HTF38138 remote-control tower-fan guide, while the retailer record supplies the -BM variant details. The two sources support a clear model and color description at their stated scope. They do not connect historical Amazon ASIN B00JQN9I46 to this exact item; that page returned an internal error. Keep the suffix visible when checking a current listing rather than relying on the base manual code alone.
Eight speed choices with named modes
The retailer record lists eight speed settings, Sleep and Breeze modes, oscillation and remote control. It also names an integrated carry handle. These details give a shopper more selectable speed levels than a basic three-speed control, but the source does not quantify airflow at any setting or show a tested advantage. Modes are separate from speeds and should not be added to the speed count. The remote and movement functions are useful features to confirm in the package of a present offer, especially when a listing or seller may differ from the saved retailer record.
Automatic shutoff without a stated duration
HTF38138-BM is listed with an automatic shutoff timer, but the saved exact-variant source does not give the timer's maximum duration or its increments. That means it can be described as having automatic shutoff, but it cannot be matched to a required eight-hour or twelve-hour threshold. Unknown duration is not evidence that the feature is absent; it is simply not established in the available record. If timed operation determines the purchase, look for a model-specific manual or a readable exact-item specification before using this fan as a qualifying match.
Published size details are not fit measurements
The retailer lists a 38-inch height, 7.7-inch width and 8.2-pound weight. These are published specifications, not independent measurements of a particular unit or a full clearance diagram. The saved sources do not state a numeric oscillation sweep, voltage, frequency, wattage or water-system status. They also provide no measured noise, airflow or room-coverage result. Buyers with a strict footprint or electrical requirement should check the current unit's label and complete dimensions rather than infer those values from the tower format.
Who may choose this Holmes model
This model may suit someone who values a black 38-inch tower with eight selectable speeds, a remote, oscillation and an automatic shutoff feature, and who can verify the exact -BM variant. It should not qualify for a timer-duration requirement until a maximum is documented. The tagged search is a discovery path, not proof that B00JQN9I46 is a current exact offer. Check the label, package, timer instructions and seller details before buying. This review uses a saved exact-variant retailer record and maker manual index; it does not claim personal testing, current price or stock.
What else to compare
For a timer threshold or electrical requirement, compare models with a sourced duration or nameplate value rather than this unresolved field.
