Our take
The CP-X2521WN is a source-documented option for a presentation room that can use native XGA and conventional throw. Hitachi provides a 100-inch distance range, 1.2× zoom, automatic vertical keystone and a broad port list. Its 2,700-lumen specification is not labeled ANSI, so keep that method unknown when comparing it with the Sanyo PLC-XD2200 or Dell M209X.
For a wired presentation room that can use XGA and measured conventional throw.
It is not a fit for native Full HD or 4K, built-in streaming, a close-wall ultra-short-throw position, battery use or a brightness requirement that specifically needs an ANSI rating.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- Hitachi specifies native 1024 × 768 XGA and a conventional 1.2× zoom lens.
- The brochure gives 100-inch placement distances of 3.0–3.5 m.
- HDMI, VGA, USB, Ethernet and LAN/control functions support wired rooms.
What to weigh up
- The 2,700-lumen rating is not identified as ANSI in the brochure.
- XGA is below Full HD detail and uses a 4:3 panel.
- The UHP lamp and 1 W mono speaker need a service and audio plan.

Full review: how the features affect your choice
What the features mean for you
What detail does the panel provide?
Hitachi identifies the CP-X2521WN as a portable LCD data projector with native 1024 × 768 XGA resolution. This format can work for slides and computer material that does not demand Full HD detail, but it remains a 4:3 image. A source that accepts 1080p does not make the panel native 1080p. For spreadsheets or classroom diagrams, select an image size that keeps text readable and compare the viewing distance against a WXGA or Full HD model if fine detail matters. The source sheet supports a role judgment for presentations, but it does not imply that every room will suit the model.
How should the 2,700-lumen rating be used?
The brochure says 2,700 lumens but does not state ANSI as the measurement method. Keep the manufacturer wording rather than silently converting it into an ANSI value. That makes it inappropriate to rank directly against the Sanyo PLC-XD2200's 2,200 ANSI rating or Dell M209X's 2,000 ANSI rating. The Hitachi number may still help describe the product, but the method gap matters when a procurement requirement uses a specific standard. Lamp age, Eco settings, screen size and room light also change the output of a real unit.
Can the projector reach the screen from the available distance?
Hitachi lists a 1.2× manual zoom and a 100-inch image distance of about 3.0–3.5 m. That is conventional projection, not a close-wall UST design. Measure the lens position and screen width before selecting a shelf or ceiling mount. The automatic vertical keystone function can correct some tilt, but it is not a substitute for aligning the projector square to the screen. Leave room for the body, cables, ventilation and service access. The broader 40–300 inch range in the brochure still depends on the room geometry and the actual image format.
Do its network and USB ports run streaming services?
The CP-X2521WN includes HDMI, two VGA inputs, USB-A and USB-B, RJ45 LAN and an optional wireless adapter. Those connections can support a managed presentation room or wired source rack, but the saved Hitachi material does not document a streaming-app platform. Treat LAN as network/control connectivity unless the exact system documentation states otherwise. The integrated speaker is rated at 1 W mono, so larger rooms may need external audio. Confirm that the computer, player and any optional wireless hardware use compatible ports before buying a used unit.
What maintenance comes with the UHP lamp?
Hitachi specifies a 215 W UHP lamp. A lamp's remaining life depends on operating mode and the history of the particular projector, so the brochure does not establish the hours left on a used unit. Ask for the lamp counter and replacement records, inspect ventilation and make sure the filter and lamp cover are present. The projector uses AC power and is not battery powered. If continuous operation is expected, plan a spare lamp and service access. If the room calls for native widescreen detail or a method-specific brightness threshold, compare a different model with those facts clearly documented.
Compare for your needs
The Sanyo PLC-XD2200 has XGA resolution and an explicit 2,200 ANSI-lumen rating. Hitachi lists 2,700 lumens without an ANSI method and provides a different port and placement set; compare the exact measurement requirement and lamp condition.

Before you buy
Are the 2,700 lumens ANSI?
Hitachi's reviewed brochure says 2,700 lumens but does not name ANSI, so the method remains unconfirmed.
Is this projector ultra-short throw?
No. The brochure gives 100-inch placement at 3.0–3.5 m, which is conventional throw.
Does RJ45 mean it has streaming apps?
No streaming-app platform is documented; the brochure lists RJ45 as a wired network connection.

The decision
Consider the CP-X2521WN for a measured XGA presentation room with compatible wired sources. Keep its unqualified lumen figure separate from ANSI ratings and check the lamp on any used unit.
