Our take
Epson's PowerLite 5535U is a large-venue installation projector with native WUXGA 1920 × 1200, 5500 color lumens, 5500 white lumens, horizontal and vertical lens shift, and an HDBaseT input. Epson's lumen measurements are identified as color and white output using IDMS and ISO methods, not ANSI. A 1.26–2.30:1 throw range and lens shift give an installer options when aligning a fixed screen, while the lamp, 15.2 lb body, and 462 W normal-mode power point to planned mains-powered use. Miracast supports screen mirroring from Android devices, which is not the same as built-in subscription apps. This model fits a room designed around WUXGA and a tested signal path, not a casual portable movie setup.
Large meeting rooms and venues needing WUXGA, installation flexibility, and a wired control or signal path.
It is not for battery travel, wall-adjacent UST furniture, native 4K detail, or buyers who need an ANSI number instead of Epson's color and white measurements.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- Epson specifies native WUXGA 1920 × 1200 and 5500 color/white lumens for the exact V11H824120 model.
- Horizontal and vertical optical lens shift, 1.8× zoom, HDBaseT, and dual HDMI support planned installations.
- Network control and Miracast are documented presentation functions for selected connected sources.
What to weigh up
- The color/white lumen figures are not ANSI and should not be converted for comparison.
- A 15.2 lb lamp model and high power draw make this a fixed AC installation, not travel gear.
- Lamp hours, filters, mount, and any wireless module need checking on the exact unit.

What the features mean for you
The 5535U is designed around a room installation
Epson describes the PowerLite 5535U as a large-venue installation projector. Its 15.2 lb body, HDBaseT input, network control, and front/rear/ceiling projection options make the wiring and mounting plan central to the purchase. Start by measuring the screen width, lens-to-screen distance, ceiling or shelf position, and cable route. Its 1.8× optical zoom and lens shift offer flexibility, but neither removes the need to align the projector with the actual screen. Consider access to the filter and replaceable lamp before fixing the mount. The model makes most sense when the room can accommodate it and the installation benefits from its resolution and connections.
WUXGA gives a wide, detailed computer image
The 5535U's native resolution is WUXGA at 1920 × 1200, in a 16:10 panel. This provides more vertical pixels than Full HD for computer desktops and many presentation layouts. Epson lists compatibility with several other signal formats, but the native image remains WUXGA. It is not native 4K. For projected spreadsheets, plans, or multiple windows, the extra desktop area can be useful. For film use, think about how a 16:10 panel will display 16:9 video and what screen format the venue uses. Native resolution helps define the fit; source signal support should not be mistaken for a different panel specification.
Keep the Epson light-output methods intact
Epson lists 5500 lumens of color brightness and 5500 lumens of white brightness. Its notes associate color light output with IDMS 15.4 and white light output with ISO 21118. Neither number is an ANSI figure, so the matching profile leaves ansiLumens null. Preserve the separate measures when comparing the 5535U with products rated under ANSI. These are original model measurements and do not show output from an older lamp in a particular unit. Ask for lamp hours, replacement history, and an image from the exact projector. A bright-room claim still depends on screen size, ambient light, mode, and the condition of the optical path.
Lens shift and throw support alignment
The standard lens has a documented 1.26–2.30:1 throw range, up to 1.8× optical zoom, and ±50 percent vertical and ±10 percent horizontal shift. Measure the room against those ranges, and confirm the manufacturer installation diagram for the correct image height and offset. Lens shift can help position a projected image without moving the chassis, unlike digital keystone correction, but it has a finite range. The projector is conventional throw and cannot replace an ultra-short-throw unit at a shallow cabinet. HDMI, HDBaseT, VGA, and network connections can serve a control-room path; Miracast mirrors a supported device and does not establish built-in apps.
Check lamp, filter, and wireless components
The 5535U uses a 300 W lamp and has a replaceable air filter. Original lamp estimates are not remaining-life evidence for a used device. Request the hour counter and service records, then test startup, focus, color uniformity, network control, and all required inputs. Epson documents Miracast for Android screen mirroring and wireless LAN module compatibility; confirm whether the optional module is included and whether the present network accepts it. Ask about mount hardware, remote, lamp, and power cable, because an old product bundle may differ from the original box. This evaluation uses Epson documentation and does not claim a hands-on image test, current price, stock, or sales evidence.
What else to compare
For a documented 5000 ANSI lamp installation at lower native resolution, ViewSonic Pro9500 is a legacy alternative. Optoma ZH400UST offers a Full HD laser UST lens when the projector must sit close to the surface.
Before you buy
Is the 5535U native 4K?
No. Epson specifies native WUXGA at 1920 × 1200; its 1080p support and signal compatibility do not make it native 4K.
Are 5500 lumens ANSI?
No. Epson lists 5500 color and 5500 white lumens under IDMS and ISO methods, not as ANSI output.
Does Miracast mean built-in Netflix?
No. Epson describes Miracast screen mirroring for Android devices; that is separate from an integrated streaming-app platform.

The decision
PowerLite 5535U is a substantial fixed-installation choice when WUXGA, lens shift, and HDBaseT matter; plan around its lamp, AC supply, throw, and Epson-specific light-output methods.
