THE SHORT ANSWER

Our take

The PowerLite 2255U is for a meeting room that benefits from WUXGA slide detail, two HDMI sources and a manual zoom lens. Epson lists 5,000 color and 5,000 white lumens, but does not call those values ANSI. This is a documentation-based model assessment, not a claim about the brightness or condition of any particular used unit.

Consider it for

A meeting room needing WUXGA slides, multiple HDMI sources and conventional zoom, with placement checked before installation..

Look elsewhere if

Skip it if you need battery operation, integrated streaming, a directly comparable ANSI rating, or a fixed installation whose throw distance cannot be verified from the exact manual.

Pros & cons

What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.

What works in its favor

  • Native 1920 × 1200 WUXGA provides more slide area than standard 1080p.
  • Two HDMI inputs and 16 W mono audio suit a meeting-room connection plan.
  • Manual 1.0–1.6× optical zoom offers some placement flexibility.

What to weigh up

  • The 5,000 color and white lumen values are not labeled ANSI.
  • At 10.1 lb, it is better for occasional moves than daily carrying.
  • Public throw-ratio details conflict, so fixed mounting needs confirmation.

Full review: how the features affect your choice

What the features mean for you

WUXGA is useful when slides carry detail

Epson specifies native 1920 × 1200 WUXGA in a 16:10 shape. The additional vertical area can help with spreadsheets, wide presentation layouts and side-by-side windows when a laptop sends a compatible format. It is more detailed than XGA or WXGA options in this batch, but it remains below a native 4K theater image. If your screen is 16:9, check how your content will be framed and whether unused space is acceptable. Resolution is most valuable when text remains legible from the back of the room, so compare your own slide size and viewing distance.

Keep Epson's brightness methods visible

The specification lists 5,000 color lumens and 5,000 white lumens. Epson does not label these numbers ANSI, so this guide leaves the ANSI matcher value unknown rather than placing them beside ANSI ratings as if they were equivalent. A published rating also says nothing about the remaining light of an aging lamp. For a used example, inspect lamp hours, brightness mode, focus, color uniformity, fan operation and filter condition. A room with ambient light may benefit from the original class of the projector, but the actual image and exact screen size still need confirmation.

Zoom gives room to adjust, not unlimited reach

The PowerLite 2255U has a manual 1.0–1.6× optical zoom. That range can make it easier to fit a conventional meeting room than a fixed-lens model. However, Epson's product page and specification material do not agree on the throw range, so no exact lens distance is claimed here. For a ceiling mount, calculate the image from the manual for the exact revision and measure lens-to-screen distance, diagonal and height. Zoom cannot compensate for a screen beyond the lens range. This is ordinary projection geometry, not short-throw or UST placement.

Two HDMI inputs simplify a shared room

Two HDMI connectors let the room leave more than one modern source plugged in, which can reduce cable swapping during presentations. Epson also lists a 16 W mono speaker for basic room audio. A conference space may still need external sound for larger groups, and a streaming service should use an external player. Epson's wireless presentation capability does not itself prove that the projector includes subscription apps. Before relying on network features, check the adapter, software and school or company network policies that apply to the exact unit.

A lamp projector brings maintenance needs

The model uses a 300 W UHE lamp and AC power. It is not a battery device or a long-life laser system. Lamp replacement, cooling and filter upkeep matter over time; a used sample's history is more relevant than its original specification. At 10.1 lb the unit can move between nearby rooms, but frequent daily carrying may be inconvenient. Ask for lamp hours and confirm that the focus, inputs, fans and remote work. A listing for the model does not establish that its lamp is new or that its brightness still matches its initial rating.

Pick it for presentations and measured placement

The 2255U makes the most sense when detailed WUXGA slides, dual HDMI and some zoom flexibility outweigh its weight and lamp maintenance. The ASUS P1 is much lighter but far dimmer by its ANSI rating and has a fixed lens; the NEC NP-UM361X-WK is made for a close board installation. These roles are different rather than a simple quality ladder. Choose by the intended image, room geometry and source needs. Before purchase, verify the throw from Epson's exact manual, lamp condition and included wireless items instead of assuming a historical listing describes the present package.

Before you buy

Is the 2255U native 4K?

No. Epson documents native WUXGA at 1920 × 1200 pixels, which is the format to use when judging detail.

Are the 5,000-lumen values ANSI?

Epson gives separate color and white output, but the cited materials do not label them ANSI; the ANSI value remains unknown.

Does wireless presentation mean built-in streaming apps?

No app platform is documented in the saved Epson sources. Plan an external streaming device and verify its signal with the projector.
