Our take
The PowerLite 2142W is a meeting-room projector for buyers who need WXGA slides, dual HDMI, and wireless presentation without relying on a separate network module. Its output is strong in Epson's listed methods, but it should not be compared as an ANSI-rated product.
A conventional meeting room that needs WXGA slides, dual HDMI, and documented wireless screen mirroring.
Skip it if a native Full HD image, a documented ANSI threshold, built-in streaming apps, or a lamp-free projector is essential.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- Epson specifies native 1280 × 800 WXGA and a 16:10 image for the exact model.
- Two HDMI inputs and wireless screen mirroring help a room connect multiple presentation sources.
- A 1.0–1.6× manual optical zoom and 1.38–2.24:1 throw range support measured setup.
What to weigh up
- The 4,200 color and white lumen values use IDMS and ISO methods rather than ANSI.
- The 230 W lamp is a used-unit service item, and its remaining hours cannot be inferred from the model page.
- Wireless mirroring is a presentation feature, not a documented built-in streaming app platform.

Full review: how the features affect your choice
What the features mean for you
WXGA supports widescreen slide layouts
Epson specifies native 1280 × 800 WXGA with a 16:10 aspect ratio. This format gives presentations more horizontal workspace than XGA 4:3 and can suit a widescreen board or screen. It remains below Full HD, so detailed video and small text do not gain the extra pixels of a 1920 × 1080 projector. Match the screen shape and laptop output to 16:10 before selecting the model. Epson lists compatibility with 1080p input timings, but that does not alter the projector's native matrix. Choose it for the native WXGA work area and presentation connections, not for a claim of native Full HD.
Separate the color and white brightness methods
Epson lists 4,200 lumens for color light output and 4,200 for white light output. The specifications identify IDMS 15.4 for color and ISO 21118 for white. Neither figure is labeled ANSI, so a 4,200 number should not be placed alongside a 4,000 ANSI rating as though the methods matched. ECO mode is listed at lower output and changes the brightness-versus-power trade-off. Consider room light and screen size separately, and test the specific projector before using it for a large audience. Lamp age and mode can change the projected image; a manufacturer rating is not a measurement of a used unit.
Manual zoom gives measured placement latitude
The PowerLite 2142W lists a 1.0–1.6× manual zoom and a 1.38–2.24:1 throw ratio. Calculate the required screen width and lens distance before choosing a table, cart, or ceiling mount. The zoom allows optical image sizing within that range but does not make the model close-wall or ultra-short-throw. The unit also supports front, rear, and ceiling orientations. Preserve access to cooling vents and lamp service panels, and leave room for the cable bundle. Manual focus and zoom require adjustment at the projector, so plan how to reach the lens once the mount is installed.
Wireless presentation is not the same as streaming
Epson describes integrated wireless presentation and enterprise security for screen mirroring. The product page lists this as a way to share computer or mobile content, not as a streaming-app system. A source device still supplies the media and service. The projector also provides one HDMI input and one HDMI/MHL input, plus VGA, Ethernet, RS-232, and audio connections. Confirm the wireless standard and room network policy before depending on mirroring, and keep a wired source as a fallback for important presentations. A built-in 16 W mono speaker can support a small room; larger audiences may need external sound.
Inspect lamp, filter, and wireless functions on used stock
Epson specifies a 230 W UHE lamp, with up to 5,500 hours in Normal mode and 12,000 in ECO mode. Those estimates describe model operation and do not confirm the life left in a used lamp. Check the timer, replacement history, filter, remote, power cord, and image uniformity. Test the HDMI/MHL ports, Ethernet, wireless projection, zoom, and speaker on the exact unit. Wireless adapters and accessories can be missing or region-specific, so confirm package contents. A unit that powers on may still have a weak lamp, cooling issue, or misaligned panels.
Choose it for source flexibility rather than an ANSI ranking
The 2142W is a fit when the room needs WXGA, two digital sources, and wireless screen sharing. BenQ MW612 also offers native WXGA and dual HDMI, with a 4,000 ANSI-lumen rating; Epson's separate color and white values are not directly interchangeable with that ANSI figure. Epson VS350W is another WXGA option with a longer manual zoom ratio but a legacy input panel. Compare native format, ports, throw distance, and brightness method instead of relying on the largest number. If the room needs apps, add an external source. If it needs a true brightness threshold, prefer a model whose manufacturer uses that exact measurement label.
Compare for your needs
BenQ MW612 shares WXGA and dual HDMI but has a 4,000 ANSI-lumen figure. Epson VS350W offers WXGA and 1.6× zoom with color and white output measured by IDMS and ISO.
