Our take
Canon's imageCLASS MF247dw combines monochrome printing with copy, scan and fax functions. The U.S. specification lists up to 28 ppm for one-sided Letter jobs, automatic duplex output, Wi-Fi, Ethernet and a 750–3,000-page recommended monthly range. Its 35-sheet ADF is simplex, so it does not scan both sides of an original in one pass. Choose it when fax and flexible networking matter alongside duplex printing, while a team that scans many two-sided originals should compare feeder design.
A small office needing fax and copy/scan functions, two-sided printing and both wireless and wired connections..
Skip it if color printing, a duplex scanning feeder or larger standard paper capacity is essential.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- Canon documents fax, copying and color scanning in a monochrome print MFP.
- Wi-Fi and Ethernet allow wireless placement or a wired network queue.
- The 750–3,000-page recommendation and automatic duplex support regular office output.
What to weigh up
- The 35-sheet ADF is simplex rather than duplex scanning.
- Standard input is 250 sheets plus a one-sheet multipurpose tray.
- The 28 ppm figure applies to one-sided Letter output; duplex speed is lower.

Full review: how the features affect your choice
What the features mean for you
Fax and scan with monochrome output
Canon identifies the MF247dw as a monochrome laser model with print, copy, scan and fax functions. Its scanner supports color even though its print engine is black and white. That makes it useful for a small office where signed forms and fax traffic share a device, but it cannot serve color print jobs. The exact model page lists these functions separately, and the suffix should be checked on a used unit because related MF models can differ. See [Canon's MF247dw specifications](https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/imageclass-mf247dw).
Automatic print duplex, simplex originals
The printer automatically turns output pages and Canon lists up to 16 ppm for two-sided Letter printing versus 28 ppm one-sided. Those figures explain the convenience tradeoff: duplex jobs save hand handling and paper, while running more slowly than a single-sided file. The 35-sheet ADF handles originals but is simplex; two-sided scans require another process. For buyers whose priority is saving paper on reports, print duplex is useful. For scanning contracts front and back, feeder behavior is a separate requirement.
A modest paper supply
Canon lists a 250-sheet cassette and a one-sheet multipurpose tray as standard, with a 100-sheet output bin. This is enough for routine small-office jobs but is not the deep input capacity of workgroup printers with multiple trays. The separate multipurpose slot can feed a special sheet without emptying the main cassette. Standard capacity should be compared as supplied; a seller's bundle or added tray is not established by Canon's basic specifications and must be confirmed on the particular unit.
Wireless and wired sharing
The MF247dw's standard interfaces include USB, 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11 b/g/n wireless, plus Wi-Fi Direct. A home office can place it on Wi-Fi, while a team can choose a wired network connection. A phone-printing feature does not replace network security or a reliable setup, so select the interface that fits the intended queue. Canon also notes that a USB cable is not included. Check the network setup and included phone cord if faxing is part of the workflow.
Use the maker's range, not its maximum
Canon recommends 750–3,000 pages per month and separately lists a maximum duty cycle of 15,000 pages. The recommended range is the more appropriate matching measure; the maximum is not a regular target. The 28 ppm one-sided speed and the 250-sheet cassette describe other parts of the experience, not a substitute for a monthly workload recommendation. This range makes the MF247dw easier to compare with printers whose makers publish no recommendation, while the small paper supply may still mean more frequent reloads.
Compare for your needs
For one-pass two-sided scanning compare an MFP with a duplex ADF; for print-only use choose a simpler model.

Before you buy
Does it print two-sided pages automatically?
Yes. Canon lists duplex print; the two-sided Letter rating is up to 16 ppm.
Does the ADF scan both sides at once?
No. Canon specifies a 35-sheet ADF and states duplex scanning is not included.
What monthly range does Canon recommend?
Canon lists 750–3,000 pages per month, apart from its 15,000-page duty-cycle maximum.
