Our take
The Brother HL-2070N is an older single-function monochrome printer with USB, parallel and 10/100 Ethernet. Brother rates it up to 20 ppm and lists a 250-sheet paper tray. It supports manual two-sided printing, which means the user handles the stack between sides rather than the printer turning sheets automatically. Brother marks the model discontinued, and its specification page lists old operating systems. It can suit a buyer who understands that compatibility work and accepts the manual workflow; it is not a current-style wireless or automatic-duplex choice.
A buyer who needs a basic wired mono printer, accepts manual paper turning and can confirm driver compatibility for the exact computer..
Do not choose it when built-in Wi-Fi, automatic duplex, current driver support without extra checking, or an all-in-one workflow is required.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- The 250-sheet main tray can hold more paper than a very small personal printer.
- USB, parallel and 10/100 Ethernet provide documented wired connection options.
- Brother specifies a manual duplex driver workflow for users who can manage paper refeeding.
What to weigh up
- Brother marks the HL-2070N discontinued and no longer updates its specifications page.
- Manual duplex requires collecting and reinserting pages; there is no automatic duplexer.
- Wireless is an optional external adapter, not built-in networking, and the listed OS support is old.

What the features mean for you
Check the driver before choosing a legacy unit
Brother marks the HL-2070N discontinued and the specification page lists drivers for older Windows, Mac and Linux environments. That history makes compatibility a first-order buying check. Confirm a driver or a supported print path for the computer that will use the printer before ordering a used unit. The documentation does not prove that every modern OS fails, but it also does not promise current support. A successful test print from the intended system matters more than a familiar model name.
Treat two-sided output as a manual job
Brother lists manual duplex rather than automatic duplex. The driver can print one side, prompt the user to reload the pages, then print the other side. That may be acceptable for occasional forms, but it adds attention and handling for every longer packet. If several people share the printer or two-sided jobs are routine, compare a model with an automatic duplex unit. Do not mistake a driver-assisted manual process for a built-in page-turning mechanism.
Use the wired ports it actually has
The HL-2070N's standard interface list includes USB 2.0, IEEE 1284 parallel and 10/100Base-TX Ethernet. Ethernet supports a shared wired queue; USB or parallel can connect to a nearby computer with the appropriate cable. Brother lists 802.11b only as an optional NC-2200w wireless print server, so the product should not be matched as having built-in Wi-Fi. A used listing should include or identify any separately fitted adapter if wireless placement is part of the plan.
Know what the single-function design leaves out
This is a monochrome printer, not a copier, scanner or fax machine. That keeps the workflow focused on output and avoids buying an MFP's functions when a separate scanner already exists. It also means paper capture and fax tasks must happen elsewhere. Brother's 20 ppm rating describes print speed under its stated test conditions, not total time for copying or scanning. If paperwork enters the office on paper, choose an all-in-one model that explicitly lists the needed functions.
Do not infer workload from the tray size
Brother documents the 250-sheet tray and speed but does not give a comparable recommended monthly page range in the reviewed U.S. specification. The profile therefore leaves monthly guidance unknown. A tray can reduce reloads during a job; it does not tell you how many pages the manufacturer recommends month after month. For a used printer, inspect the feed rollers, drum and toner, print a sample and confirm the return terms. None of those conditions can be concluded from the model's historical specification.
What else to compare
For automatic duplex and built-in Wi-Fi, compare the HP M209dwe or Brother HL-2275DW. A workflow needing copy or scan requires an MFP rather than this print-only model.
Before you buy
Does the HL-2070N print both sides automatically?
No. Brother lists manual duplex, which requires the user to refeed paper between sides.
Does it have built-in Wi-Fi?
No built-in Wi-Fi is listed; Brother describes 802.11b only through an optional NC-2200w adapter.
Is the HL-2070N still supported as a current model?
Brother labels the model discontinued and says its specification page is no longer updated; check the driver path for your computer.

The decision
The HL-2070N is a legacy wired mono printer for buyers comfortable checking driver support and manually turning paper. Its discontinued status and unknown workload guidance limit its use as a current office default.
