Our take
BenQ's MX711 is a business-class XGA projector with a manufacturer-rated 3,200 ANSI lumens, a 1.3× manual zoom, and a broad mixture of HDMI, VGA, USB, network, and legacy video connections. A 10 W speaker and microphone input support a basic meeting-room setup. Its strongest case is replacing an older wired presentation system where 4:3 XGA remains useful. It is not a Full HD home-cinema projector, and optional wireless display should not be confused with an integrated streaming platform.
A buyer replacing a conventional XGA meeting-room projector who can verify legacy port needs, lamp condition, and the correct optional accessories..
Skip it if you need native Full HD or 4K, UST placement, battery operation, built-in apps, or wireless display without sourcing the optional accessory.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- BenQ labels its native XGA output at 3,200 ANSI lumens.
- HDMI, two VGA inputs, USB reader/display, and LAN functions support varied presentation equipment.
- A built-in 10 W speaker and microphone input can simplify a small meeting setup.
What to weigh up
- The native 1024 × 768 4:3 grid has limited detail for current widescreen content.
- The 1.50–1.97:1 throw requires conventional room distance and advance measurement.
- A replaceable lamp and optional wireless dongle introduce separate used-unit checks.

Full review: how the features affect your choice
What the features mean for you
An XGA panel for legacy meeting material
The MX711's native 1024 × 768 image is XGA in a 4:3 shape. It can match older presentation decks and computer sources that were designed for that format, but widescreen video and modern desktop layouts use less of the panel or lose detail when scaled. Supported signal modes are not the same as the panel's native grid. If the room's common files are spreadsheets, charts, or 16:9 video, preview them at the intended screen size before committing. The model code matters because neighboring BenQ MX models differ in resolution and port layout.
Use the ANSI figure without overpromising a used unit
BenQ specifies 3,200 ANSI lumens for the MX711, which is the value to compare with other ANSI-labeled products. The rating is a model specification, not a measured value for a used projector. Lamp hours, picture mode, dust, room conditions, and screen size affect perceived output. Ask for the lamp counter and a live image, especially if the projector will replace a classroom or meeting-room unit that must be seen under overhead lights. Do not turn the historical product listing into a promise about current brightness or lamp life.
Measure its conventional zoom lens
The 1.3× manual zoom covers a 1.50–1.97:1 throw range. This provides some flexibility in image size after positioning, but the lens is conventional rather than UST. Calculate the required lens distance for the actual screen width before using a ceiling mount or cart. The specification does not establish optical lens shift, so plan to center the image through physical placement. Digital keystone can reshape a picture but does not provide the same optical alignment. Confirm that the zoom and focus rings move smoothly on a used unit.
Make the port panel work for the room
The data sheet lists HDMI 1.3, two VGA inputs, USB reader and display functions, RJ45 LAN control and display, S-Video, composite video, and a 10 W speaker with microphone input. This broad panel can help a room bridge computers and older AV equipment. BenQ also describes an optional wireless display dongle; that accessory is separate and is not a built-in app store. Test the exact ports and network path that your room requires, and check whether the source sends sound through HDMI or a separate audio connection.
Check lamp life and optional wireless parts
The MX711 uses a 230 W UHP lamp. A lamp projector needs service planning and dependable AC power; a stated rating cannot confirm the remaining life of an individual unit. Examine the image for tint, flicker, dust shadows, and focus variation, and verify fan behavior and lamp hours. The optional wireless display accessory should be listed as a separate check if that workflow is important. The manufacturer data sheet confirms model specifications, but it does not establish which adapter, remote, cable, or microphone is included with a historical Amazon offer.
Compare for your needs
Epson PowerLite X12 is another native-XGA presentation model with PC-free USB JPEG slides, while Dell 7700FullHD offers higher native detail and output at the cost of a larger lamp-based chassis.
