Our take
The BenQ MW824ST is a lamp-based WXGA short-throw projector aimed at classroom and presentation use. It combines a 3,200 ANSI-lumen rating, a fixed short lens and a 10 W speaker, with model-level compatibility for optional PointWrite pen hardware. The projector alone does not establish that any used offer includes the required kit, pens or touch module.
A fixed classroom where WXGA slides, close placement and the exact included interactive accessories can be checked..
It is not a UST projector, a built-in streaming device, native Full HD or proof that a used offer includes PointWrite hardware.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- BenQ specifies native 1280 × 800 WXGA and labels the 3,200-lumen figure ANSI.
- The short-throw lens can place a large classroom image from a shorter distance than a standard-throw model.
- A 10 W mono speaker and HDMI/MHL input are documented for direct classroom source connections.
What to weigh up
- The fixed lens does not provide optical zoom, leaving fewer placement choices than a zoom-lens projector.
- PointWrite Kit PW02 and Touch Module PT02 are optional accessories, not standard equipment in the published specification.
- A 210 W lamp and the condition of a used unit require checking; rated mode life does not reveal remaining hours.

What the features mean for you
Does its native resolution suit a classroom?
BenQ lists native WXGA at 1280 × 800 in a 16:10 shape. That gives widescreen slides more horizontal room than XGA while preserving an appropriate image for typical classroom text and diagrams. It remains below Full HD, so fine video detail and very small interface text will not match a 1920 × 1080 projector. The data sheet's input compatibility should not be mistaken for a higher native panel. Match the panel to the size of the writing and graphics students need to read from their seats.
How does the short-throw design change placement?
The MW824ST uses a fixed short-throw lens. BenQ's sheet gives an 87-inch image from about 0.91 metres, which helps keep the projector closer to the board than a conventional room lens. Because the lens is fixed, there is no optical zoom range to absorb a measurement error. Check the full distance chart, projection offset, mount position and board width before installation. Short throw reduces shadowing potential but does not make the model ultra-short-throw or suitable for placement flush against the wall.
What does the 3,200 rating tell you?
BenQ labels the MW824ST at 3,200 ANSI lumens. This provides a documented comparison value, not a promise about the picture from a unit that has already accumulated lamp hours. The 210 W lamp and selected image mode affect useful light output; ambient light, screen size and surface also matter. Ask for a current demonstration at the planned image size and request the lamp timer. If a classroom must meet a specific brightness threshold, distinguish the source's rating from the measured state of a particular used projector.
Is interactive writing included?
BenQ describes the MW824ST as PointWrite-ready, and its specification lists the PointWrite Kit PW02 and touch module as optional accessories. The model supports optional pen interaction, but the projector record alone does not prove the kit, pens, touch module, software or calibration hardware comes with a seller's offer. The matching profile records that model-level capability without assuming a particular bundle or number of simultaneous users. For an interactive classroom, confirm the exact kit identifiers and verify that the installed computer and operating system can run the required software before treating this as a complete solution.
What are the documented sources and upkeep?
The model sheet and manual list HDMI/MHL, two VGA inputs, composite and S-Video, plus LAN control, RS-232 and a service USB connection. LAN control is not an app-streaming platform. BenQ specifies a lamp with different mode-based rated lives, up to 10,000 hours in LampSave; those figures are not the remaining life of an old unit. Inspect the lamp, filters, fans, focus and image uniformity. Test each connector the classroom depends on, especially when replacing equipment with legacy VGA or video sources.
Who should consider the MW824ST?
This model fits a fixed classroom or meeting room that needs a close projector position, WXGA presentation detail and an external wired source. It is less compelling if you need native Full HD, a variable zoom lens, app access or interactive writing without buying additional hardware. Measure the board and mount rather than relying on a seller's short-throw label alone. Use the tagged search to compare exact-model offers, then confirm the lamp, remote, power cable, wall mount and any optional PointWrite components individually.
What else to compare
Compare BenQ MW523 for standard-throw installation and a manual zoom, or a projector with documented included pen hardware if interactive writing is required.
Before you buy
Is the MW824ST native Full HD?
No. BenQ lists native WXGA at 1280 × 800, although the projector accepts several higher input formats.
Does the projector include interactive pens?
BenQ lists the PointWrite kit and touch module as optional accessories, so a seller's bundle must be verified.
Does LAN mean it streams apps?
No. BenQ specifies LAN control; the reviewed model documents do not identify a built-in streaming platform.
Is it an ultra-short-throw model?
BenQ calls it short throw and lists a fixed lens; its documented placement is not a wall-adjacent UST design.
