Our take
The BenQ MW721 is a WXGA meeting projector with an unusually clear brightness and placement packet for this group: BenQ's datasheet specifies 3500 ANSI lumens, a 1.21–1.57:1 throw, and 1.3× optical zoom. The manual also documents LAN control/display, AC power, a 240 W lamp, and one 10 W speaker. Those features point to a fixed conference room where slide readability and wired system management matter. It is not native Full HD and should not be treated as a smart home projector simply because the network connection can support presentation workflows.
A fixed meeting room or training space using WXGA slides, wired network management, and a measured standard throw..
It is not for native 1080p or 4K detail, a close-wall UST layout, battery portability, or built-in streaming apps.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- BenQ explicitly labels its 3500-lumen rating ANSI, so it can be compared with other ANSI-rated models.
- The 1.21–1.57:1 throw and 1.3× zoom make screen placement more adjustable than a fixed-lens projector.
- LAN control/display and a 10 W speaker serve documented meeting-room workflows.
What to weigh up
- Native WXGA is less detailed than Full HD, especially for fine spreadsheet text or detailed film images.
- A 240 W lamp requires outlet power and makes current lamp hours important on a used unit.
- The joint manual covers MX720 and MW721; only MW721-specific values should be used.

Full review: how the features affect your choice
What the features mean for you
Is WXGA the right detail level for a meeting room?
The MW721's native panel is WXGA 1280 × 800, a 16:10 shape that leaves useful vertical room for laptop presentations. It has more pixels than XGA but less than Full HD. This distinction affects small spreadsheet labels, drawings, and video detail more than a large title slide. BenQ's joint manual covers both MX720 and MW721, so use the MW721 column for its native image and do not transfer XGA resolution from the sibling. Consider the screen size and seating distance before deciding that a supported input mode meets your needs.
What does the ANSI figure settle?
BenQ's MW721 datasheet lists 3500 ANSI lumens. The explicit ANSI label makes that model figure more directly comparable with another ANSI-rated projector than a generic lumen claim. It still does not tell you how much light an older unit currently delivers. Lamp age, eco mode, dust, color settings, screen gain, room light, and projected size all affect visibility. Ask for the lamp-hour counter and check brightness at the intended size. The 240 W lamp and published lamp-care instructions also make maintenance part of the ownership decision.
Can the lens fit the available distance?
BenQ gives a 1.21–1.57:1 throw range and a 1.3× manual zoom. Measure the lens-to-screen distance and use the throw range to confirm that the target image can be framed before mounting. The lens is conventional rather than ultra-short-throw, so it needs meaningful setback from the screen. Zoom lets the installer adjust the image within a limited range, but it does not replace a measured mount position. The saved packet does not establish optical lens shift, so plan the height and centerline around the chassis and avoid relying on digital keystone to repair a poor layout.
How does LAN help a presentation workflow?
The BenQ manual and spec sheet describe LAN control/display, which can support managing or presenting to the projector across a room network. That is different from built-in streaming apps and does not guarantee compatibility with every computer or network policy. A presentation administrator should check the required software, security settings, and available ports before changing a classroom setup. The 10 W speaker may handle a small meeting, but a larger audience may need external audio. Confirm that the exact MW721—not the neighboring MX720—is the model on the case and service label.
What should an older lamp model buyer inspect?
BenQ specifies AC power and a 240 W lamp. Before buying a used MW721, ask for the lamp-hour display, confirm the right lamp type, inspect filters and vents, test LAN features and inputs, and check focus across the full image. A 10 W speaker's presence does not establish room-filling sound. Inspect the remote and confirm included cables and mount parts individually. The model documentation describes the design, not a particular offer's condition. This review uses manufacturer sources and does not claim a hands-on brightness measurement, current price, or current stock status.
Compare for your needs
For native Full HD detail, compare NEC NP-PE401H; for an ANSI-rated SVGA projector with a longer throw, compare Optoma DS326.

Before you buy
What native resolution does BenQ list for MW721?
BenQ specifies native WXGA 1280 × 800 in a 16:10 format.
Does 3500 lumens have an ANSI label?
Yes. BenQ's MW721 datasheet labels the model's output as 3500 ANSI lumens.
Can its LAN connection stream apps?
The sources document LAN control/display, not an integrated streaming platform; plan an external source for apps.
