Our take
The BenQ MH535A is a lamp-based business projector whose datasheet gives a useful, model-specific set of room and connection facts: native 1920 × 1080, a 1.37–1.64:1 throw ratio, 1.2× zoom, two HDMI inputs, and 3600 lumens. BenQ does not label that lumen figure ANSI in the saved datasheet, so it should stay outside an ANSI comparison. The model fits a meeting or presentation room where Full HD source material and standard wired inputs matter. As an older lamp model, it needs a careful check of lamp hours, image, ports, and the exact MH535A model label before purchase.
Business meetings and presentation rooms that need native Full HD and familiar HDMI or VGA connections with conventional throw.
It is not for battery-powered travel, close-wall ultra-short-throw placement, native 4K imaging, or buyers who require a manufacturer-listed ANSI lumen value.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- BenQ lists native 1920 × 1080 resolution for the MH535A model column.
- A 1.37–1.64:1 throw range and 1.2× zoom support measured room installation.
- Two HDMI and two VGA connections serve a range of meeting-room source devices.
What to weigh up
- The 3600-lumen figure is not labeled ANSI in the datasheet.
- A 210-watt UHP lamp is a consumable, and current hours or condition are unknown.
- The zoom and digital keystone do not replace a close-wall lens or optical shift.

What the features mean for you
The correct datasheet column matters
BenQ's document groups the MS535A, MW535A, and MH535A, but their native resolutions differ. The MH535A column is the 1080p version at 1920 × 1080; the MS535A is SVGA and the MW535A is WXGA. Keep the model label attached to every claim so a series-level page does not blur those distinctions. Full HD fits detailed slides and video better than lower-resolution members of the family, while it remains below native 4K. Verify that any specific offer says MH535A rather than a similar family name.
Do not turn 3600 lumens into an ANSI rating
The manufacturer sheet prints brightness as 3600 lumens but does not provide an ANSI label or test method beside the number. Preserve that wording as a model claim and leave the matching attribute ansiLumens unknown. It can indicate that BenQ positioned this unit for meeting rooms, but it is not a directly comparable value against a model with a stated ANSI measurement. Image size, room light, projection mode, lamp age, and screen material affect practical results. If brightness is a deciding requirement, compare model documentation that names a common test basis and inspect the used image.
Measure the conventional throw before installing
The MH535A's 1.37–1.64:1 range is conventional projection, and its 1.2× zoom gives some flexibility after the lens-to-screen distance is known. Measure the available depth and target image width before buying a mount or positioning furniture. This is not a projector intended to sit immediately beside the wall. BenQ documents vertical digital keystone and adjustable feet, not optical lens shift in the cited sheet. Physical placement should do most of the alignment work to preserve the image shape and avoid unnecessary correction.
Connections suit a wired meeting-room workflow
BenQ lists two HDMI and two VGA inputs, with audio and control connections. That provides a path for laptops and older presentation equipment without assuming that the projector itself supplies internet applications. Use a streaming stick or computer over HDMI when a service is needed and check that any adapter supports the intended signal. The datasheet identifies an AC-powered unit, so a nearby outlet and cable routing are part of the installation. It is better suited to a fixed room or occasional move between rooms than to an event without power access.
Inspect lamp hours and model condition
BenQ gives up to 15000 hours in its SmartEco lamp-life modes, but that original rating is not the remaining life of an older example. Ask for the current lamp-hour readout, examine the image for discoloration and focus uniformity, and test both HDMI inputs. Confirm the model label and remote, power cord, filter state, and any cables the room requires. Historical marketplace text and the tagged search destination do not establish today's seller, stock, price, or included items. For a used projector, the unit's actual lamp and optical condition can be more important than its original brightness number.
What else to compare
For an office projector with native WXGA and Epson's method-labeled color and white output, compare PowerLite W39. For home use, compare BenQ HT1070.
Before you buy
Is the MH535A native 1080p?
Yes. BenQ's datasheet identifies the MH535A column as 1920 × 1080 native resolution.
Are the 3600 lumens ANSI?
The manufacturer datasheet does not label the 3600-lumen figure as ANSI, so this review does not convert it to ANSI lumens.
Can it project from very close to a wall?
No. The documented 1.37–1.64:1 throw ratio is conventional; measure the lens-to-screen distance for your target width.
Where can I check the current price?
