Our take
The Aqua Japan AJ-40B is a distinct approximately 17-gallon glass cube for shoppers who want an all-in-one tank form and a documented rear filter chamber. Its source-listed size, glass thickness, and LED rating make it easier to compare than a bare model name alone. Package evidence is mixed on the return pump and unclear on the lid, so treat those details as unresolved and confirm the current seller's box contents before relying on a ready-to-run setup.

It is not a verified choice for anyone who requires a confirmed return pump, a clear lid specification, a large-capacity tank, or a sump system.
Pros & cons
What could work for you, and what to consider before buying.
What works in its favor
- The exact AJ-40B model is listed as an approximately 17-gallon glass aquarium in a compact cube format.
- The retailer describes a built-in filter chamber and includes media and a return fitting/jet in its listing.
- A 10.5-W LED is listed, giving buyers a concrete package feature to compare.
What to weigh up
- The retailer says a return pump is included, while an AJ-40B owner post says it was not supplied; pump inclusion remains unknown.
- The lid wording is ambiguous, and net water volume and filter/light performance are not measured.
- The historical Amazon ASIN is not cross-referenced to a current exact Amazon offer.

What the features mean for you
Distinguish the AJ-40B from similar Aqua Japan codes
Pet Zone's product heading names the AJ-40B, and its listed dimensions are 40 × 40 × 40 cm with an approximately 17-gallon capacity. Sea Side Aquatics' AJ-series table separately lists AJ-40B at that cube size and lists AJ-40 at 40 × 25 × 26 cm. That model distinction matters: the shared AJ-40 characters do not make the two tanks interchangeable, and the smaller AJ-40's dimensions or package must not be transferred to the cube. The saved historical ASIN still lacks a current Amazon cross-reference.
A compact cube with stated glass details
The retailer lists high-quality glass, 5-mm thickness, and a 15.75-inch cube. Those facts create a useful starting point for comparing a desk or small-stand footprint with longer rectangular tanks. The capacity is approximate, so it does not establish actual fill volume after substrate and equipment. The saved sources do not give a filled weight, outside clearance around fittings, or furniture requirements. Measure the exact current unit and ask how it should be supported before using the nominal cube dimensions to approve a shelf or cabinet.
The filter chamber is a listed feature, not a performance rating
Pet Zone describes a built-in filter, supplied media, and a return fitting or jet. This supports treating the tank as an all-in-one design, but the listing does not report flow rate, media capacity, maintenance interval, noise, or filtration performance. An older owner description also discusses the rear chambers, sponge and a separate media basket; those notes help explain the layout but do not prove that each item is included in today's offer. A buyer who wants a specific pump or media should ask the seller to confirm the precise current package.
Confirm lighting, pump, and lid contents separately
The product page lists a 10.5-W LED and says a return pump is included. The older AJ-40B owner post states that the tank did not come with a return pump and describes buying one separately. Because the evidence conflicts across source and time, this review does not promise a pump. The retailer also calls the lid optional and included in the same description, which is ambiguous. The light's listed wattage is not a measure of spectrum or plant/coral performance. Before ordering, confirm the revision, pump, lid, and included media with the actual seller.
Compare the cube with other reviewed capacity choices
At approximately 17 gallons, AJ-40B sits above the ten-gallon All Glass 158005 and below the 50-gallon Deep Blue ADB11051 among glass options in this reviewed set. Its cube shape and built-in filter chamber are distinct from the Deep Blue listing, whose package is not documented in the saved evidence. It is not a 50-gallon choice and it is not a sump system: a rear all-in-one filter chamber is a different arrangement from the sump named for Vepotek's much larger acrylic cylinder. These differences affect the quiz results without establishing animal suitability.
Use the model code when checking an offer
The affiliate link searches for Aqua Japan AJ-40B because no source connects frozen ASIN B01FV6XQNK to a current Amazon page. Search results could include the smaller AJ-40 or another AJ-series aquarium, so verify the B suffix and 40 × 40 × 40 cm description. The seller page's bundle language is not enough to settle the pump and lid questions. Confirm exact dimensions, box contents, and return policy directly with the listing seller. Current Amazon availability, price, and stock are not established by this review.
What else to compare
For a smaller nominal glass rectangle, compare All Glass Aquariums 158005. Deep Blue Professional ADB11051 is listed at 50 gallons with a standard rectangular form, while Vepotek ATC2700BK is a much larger acrylic cylinder with a listed sump. Those options have different size and equipment evidence.
Before you buy
How large is the AJ-40B?
Pet Zone lists approximately 17 gallons and dimensions of 40 × 40 × 40 cm, or 15.75 inches per side. Treat capacity as approximate and confirm dimensions for the current offer.
Does the AJ-40B include a return pump?
The product page says yes, but a 2016 AJ-40B owner post says the tank did not include one. The evidence conflicts, so confirm the exact current package with the seller.
Is it a sump aquarium?
The source describes a built-in all-in-one filter chamber. It does not identify a sump system, so it does not meet a documented-sump requirement in this finder.

The decision
Consider AJ-40B when an approximately 17-gallon glass cube and listed all-in-one filter/LED layout suit your plan. Confirm the current dimensions, pump, lid, and package contents before buying; the saved evidence does not resolve those seller-specific details or the historical Amazon offer.
