Assessment scenario: the earlier Sennheiser CX Plus True Wireless Black, U.S. article 509188, is a sealed-tip ANC set with IPX4-rated earbuds and a USB-C case that does not charge wirelessly. Its manual’s eight-hour example is ANC-off, and Sennheiser labels the model end of life.

Assessment scenario: Earlier sealed ANC with IPX4 earbuds and a wired-only case
An editorial assessment scenario for an earlier sealed in-ear ANC configuration with IPX4 applying to the earbuds only and a USB-C case that does not charge wirelessly. This is not a statement of the visitor’s intent, a minimum ANC-runtime claim, live stock, seller condition or a water rating for the case.
Explore this buying guide ↗Why consider this model?
- Sennheiser’s U.S. product page identifies standard CX Plus True Wireless Black article 509188, separately from White article 509189 and CX Plus SE article 509247, and labels the product end of life.
- The model manual documents sealed ear-canal fit, active ANC, Transparent Hearing and IPX4 splash resistance for the earbuds. Four silicone tip sizes are listed, but they do not promise a personal seal or comfort.
- The shared manual documents USB-C case charging; Sennheiser’s official FAQ explicitly says the case has no wireless charging and is not splash resistant. Its SBC/AAC/aptX/aptX Adaptive codec list depends on support and negotiation by the host.
Tradeoffs to weigh
- The FAQ says the earbuds remember up to six paired devices but play from only one connected source at a time; this is not a Multipoint match.
- The manual’s 8-hour earbud/24-hour case-total example specifies ANC and Transparency off, AAC, iPhone within 1 m, 50% volume and no EQ. No ANC-on runtime is documented, so no positive minimum ANC-hours requirement is supported.
- IPX4 applies to the earbuds only. Sennheiser says the case is not splash resistant; dry the earbuds before returning them to the case.
- End-of-life status gives no evidence of a current seller, offer condition, remaining battery capacity, warranty, return window or resale package.
Check these before ordering
- Match the exact CX Plus True Wireless Black name and U.S. article 509188; White is article 509189 and the separate CX Plus SE is article 509247. Do not substitute the older CX True Wireless 508973.
- Confirm the offer contains both CXPLUSTW1 earbuds, the compatible CXPLUSTW1 C case and the tip sizes you need; the maker’s original package list does not verify any individual resale carton.
- Ask for a clear check that the earbuds and case both charge and pair, and verify the USB-C charging cable/path and the seller’s exact battery, warranty and return terms.
- If wireless charging, two simultaneous source devices, a water-rated case or a stated minimum ANC-on runtime is essential, do not treat USB-C, the IPX4 earbud mark, six remembered pairings or ANC-off battery claims as substitutes.
