Assessment scenario: the earlier Black CX Plus SE, U.S. article 509247, is a sealed-tip ANC earbud set with IPX4-rated earbuds and a USB-C wired-only case. The case is not splash resistant. Its eight-hour figure is an ANC-off example, not documented ANC runtime; Sennheiser marks the U.S. model end of life.

Assessment scenario: Earlier sealed ANC with IPX4 earbuds and a wired-only case
An editorial assessment scenario for an earlier sealed in-ear ANC configuration with IPX4 applying to the earbuds only and a USB-C case that does not charge wirelessly. This is not a statement of the visitor’s intent, a minimum ANC-runtime claim, live stock, seller condition or a water rating for the case.
Explore this buying guide ↗Why consider this model?
- Sennheiser’s exact U.S. CX Plus SE page identifies Black article 509247 and marks the model end of life. Its launch note calls SE a Special Design Edition with a brushed-matte earbud finish; the checked sources do not establish a separate SE-only audio function.
- The shared official CX Plus manual names CX Plus SE and documents ear-canal fit with XS/S/M/L tips, active ANC, Transparent Hearing, and IPX4 splash resistance for the earbuds. These specifications do not promise a personal seal or comfort.
- The manual specifies USB-C case charging and the official family FAQ states there is no wireless case charging. The maker documents SBC, AAC, aptX and aptX Adaptive, but host-device support controls the negotiated codec.
Tradeoffs to weigh
- A two-device connection requirement is not met: the manual allows six remembered pairings but says playback is from one connected device at a time.
- The manual’s eight-hour / up-to-24-hour battery example specifies AAC, an iPhone within 1 m, 50% volume, Transparency off, ANC off and no EQ; no separate ANC-on runtime is documented, so no positive minimum-ANC-hours answer is supported.
- IPX4 applies to the earbuds, not the case. The maker FAQ says the case is not splash resistant; do not charge wet earbuds or infer a water rating from USB-C/Qi details.
- End-of-life status does not establish current retailer stock, new or used condition, remaining battery capacity, warranty or returns.
Check these before ordering
- Match the exact CX Plus SE True Wireless Black name and U.S. article 509247; do not substitute CX Plus True Wireless 509188, CX True Wireless 508973 or CX 400 BT 508900 based on similar names.
- Confirm the offer contains both earbuds, the compatible CXPLUSTW1 C case, the tip sizes needed and a working USB-C cable/charging path; the manual’s in-box list does not prove a particular seller package.
- Ask for evidence that the older earbuds and case both charge, and read the exact seller’s battery, warranty and return terms before relying on an offer.
- If a published ANC-on runtime threshold or two simultaneous Bluetooth connections is essential, do not use the ANC-off battery example or stored pairing count as a substitute.
