Why consider this model?

  • A household or small business focused on local video surveillance can keep a two-disk recording pool and ordinary NAS file services in a small desktop appliance. Its HDMI output and direct mouse/keyboard support can also run a nearby monitoring station without a separate PC, while the one-drive-fault-tolerant SHR-1 or RAID 1 plans offer a documented mirror option.

Tradeoffs to weigh

  • DVA1622 is a specialized NVR, not a fast general-purpose NAS: its only built-in network port is 1GbE and its 6 GB memory is non-ECC. Eight camera licenses are included, but support for up to 16 cameras requires additional licenses; drive, camera and array costs are separate. Video analytics and camera count depend on the video workload, camera compatibility and installed drives, and its small chassis has only two internal positions.
