- A technically ambitious external HDMI option when the source, Windows/Mac host, app and USB data link are chosen against Magewell's per-OS mode table. Its differentiator is a 20 Gbps USB path with 4Kp60 capture, plus SDK-only 10-bit HDR capture on compatible Windows software.
Tradeoffs to weigh
- This is not a plug-in replacement for every USB-C socket: maximum performance needs USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 at 20 Gbps, and the manufacturer says Mac cannot use that 20 Gbps mode. Lower USB tiers reduce capture choices. HDR is not available through ordinary UVC and the FAQ does not promise HDR in OBS. The product's 4K60 path is not 4K120/144, and display loop-through, HDR and high-refresh capture should not be combined beyond a source-documented plan.
