Finnex HMS-100S 100 W Digital Titanium Aquarium Heater
Model: Finnex HMS-100S 100 W Digital Titanium Aquarium Heater (manual-defined configuration; retail SKU unverified)
This lookup covers the manual-defined HMS-100S configuration in Finnex’s U.S.-oriented HMS documents; it does not confirm a current U.S. retail SKU, seller package or full electrical supply rating. The September 2020 manual gives the wattage-specific volume, control and cord/tube row, while the family overview describes sensor architecture, titanium/guard construction and its water-type/TDS condition. The official Shop collection and seven-result HMS search checked on 2026-11-01 did not identify an individual HMS offer, SKU or UPC; that bounded result is not proof of discontinuation. Because the current finder cannot screen the 20-gallon lower edge, HMS-100S remains reference-only.
This model lookup is separate from the questionnaire shortlist. It does not certify that this model meets your selected requirements.
Exact-model photograph is not verified. No wattage-specific HMS-100S product image was verified. The family visual on the full review illustrates the HMS components but does not identify this size or a seller’s package, so this reference page is text-only.
Finnex’s September 2020 HMS manual defines HMS-100S as a 100 W configuration in a 20–30 US-gallon band, with a 7.28-inch tube and separate water sensor. The public volume filter checks only the upper limit, so it cannot enforce the manual’s 20-gallon lower edge; this page is for identification and setup, not a finder match or suitability recommendation.

Documented model details
- The exact manual row names HMS-100S at 100 W, 0.90 A at a 115 V reference, 20–30 US gallons, 50–94°F control, 47-inch power and sensor cords, a 30-inch controller-to-heater lead and a 7.28-inch tube. The manual’s 115 V current column does not supply a complete voltage/frequency nameplate.
- The 100 W row is distinct from HMS-50S (50 W, 10–20 gallons, 6.30-inch tube) and HMS-150S (150 W, 30–60 gallons, 8.46-inch tube). Same-wattage HMH-100S has an internal sensor; HMS-100S uses a separate remote water probe.
- Finnex’s instructions place the sensor underwater, slightly above the heater tube and just below its cord clip without slack. They call for a fully immersed heater near water movement in an aquarium or sump, a 15-minute temperature acclimation before power, GFCI protection and a drip loop. The instructions describe submerged placement, not an inline external-filter installation.
- The controller adjusts in 0.1°F steps across a stated 50–94°F range; Finnex states ±0.5°F display accuracy. Those are maker specifications, not independent measurements of water-temperature stability throughout a tank.
- The HMS manual limits the low-water warning/cutoff system to 58–92°F and says it is disabled outside that range; it warns that heating can continue if the sensor is exposed. This does not replace the rule never to operate the heater outside water.
- Finnex’s family overview describes a titanium tube and guard and freshwater/marine use, with water TDS above 150 ppm required. That family statement is not an individual livestock-care recommendation or a wattage-specific package claim.
Limits to weigh
- The manufacturer lists a 20–30 US-gallon band, but the public matcher evaluates only maximum capacity. HMS-100S is excluded from active matches so tanks below the lower edge are not inadvertently shown; this reference itself does not establish fit for any individual aquarium.
- The manual gives amperage at 115 V, not the complete unit voltage/frequency rating. Verify the actual model label before use; do not infer a supply approval from the current-reference column.
- A current individual HMS-100S retail SKU, UPC, exact offer or seller package was not established in the bounded official Shop sources. The purchase destination is a model-level search rather than a verified exact ASIN; confirm the item and package before ordering. This does not mean a listing is absent.
- The low-water safeguard is temperature-limited and disabled below 58°F or above 92°F. It is not general permission to expose or dry-run the heater; the manual says to keep it fully immersed.
- The stated controller accuracy and temperature range are manufacturer specifications, not measured tank conditions, guaranteed room-heating performance or a fish-specific target recommendation. Use an independent thermometer and appropriate animal-care guidance.
- No 100 W-specific product or package photo is verified. The existing HMS-series image is family-level and does not identify this wattage or a seller’s package; this reference page is text-only.
Check before ordering
- If assessing an offer, confirm the actual heater and package identify Finnex HMS-100S and 100 W; do not substitute HMS-50S, HMS-150S or the similarly powered HMH-100S with a different sensor arrangement.
- Read the complete maker-listed 20–30 US-gallon band rather than treating the 30-gallon ceiling as a stand-alone fit claim. This reference is not returned by the finder because its lower boundary cannot be enforced there.
- Check the unit’s own full voltage/frequency label. The manual’s 0.90 A at 115 V entry is a current reference, not the full supply rating.
- Confirm there is space and a safe route for the 7.28-inch tube, controller lead and separate probe; follow the manual’s sensor position, full-submersion, water-movement, acclimation, GFCI and drip-loop instructions.
- Check that the needed controller setting is within the documented range and independently verify actual aquarium water temperature. The display specification does not establish livestock suitability or tank-wide stability.
- Review Finnex’s >150 ppm TDS note and the exact instructions for the planned water. A freshwater/marine family description does not settle species, reef or livestock compatibility.
- Before ordering, check the exact model identity, delivered package, seller and return terms. The central search is not a verified exact listing, and no price, current stock or seller package is claimed here.
