Model reference
Finnex HMH-50S 50 W Digital Titanium Aquarium Heater
Model: Finnex HMH-50S 50 W Digital Titanium Aquarium Heater (manual-defined configuration; retail SKU unverified)
The official HMH instruction manual names the exact HMH-50S row and the family overview documents the built-in sensor, titanium/guard construction and a water-above-150-ppm-TDS condition. The official titanium collection and one-page HMH search checked on 2026-11-01 did not identify an individual HMH retail offer, SKU or UPC; those bounded results do not establish discontinuation. This record is an identification and setup reference, not a current seller offer or shopper-specific suitability assessment.
This model lookup is separate from the questionnaire shortlist. It does not certify that this model meets your selected requirements.
Exact-model photograph is not verified. Text-only reference lookup: no exact HMH-50S wattage/package photo is verified. The ordinary review has an official HMH-family visual captioned as family appearance only; it does not identify this exact size or package.
Finnex’s September 2020 HMH manual identifies HMH-50S as a 50 W configuration for 10–20 US gallons with a 6.70-inch heater tube. Its built-in tube sensor has a specific mounting orientation. The reviewed evidence does not establish a current retail SKU/package or complete supply nameplate, and the finder cannot enforce the 10-gallon lower boundary; this is a reference, not a match.

Documented model details
- The exact manual table lists HMH-50S at 50 W, 0.45 A at a 115 V reference, 10–20 US gallons and a 6.70-inch tube; it also lists a 50–94°F control range, 47-inch power cord, 30-inch controller-to-heater lead and 47-inch sensor lead. The 115 V amperage reference is not a complete voltage/frequency nameplate.
- HMH uses a temperature sensor in the heater tube, unlike the separate remote water probe in Finnex’s HMS family. The HMH manual locates its low-water sensor where the heating element meets the cord and says to secure that portion higher than the rest of the heater.
- The manual requires full immersion, secure suction-cup mounting against glass and water movement around the heater; it also allows a filter sump. It calls for a 15-minute temperature acclimation before plugging in, a drip loop and GFCI-protected power, and unplugging and cooling the heater for at least 15 minutes before removal.
- Finnex specifies 0.1°F setting increments and ±0.5°F display accuracy. Those are manufacturer display specifications, not independent measurements of aquarium-water stability. The low-water warning system is active only from 58–92°F and is disabled outside that interval; it is not permission to operate the heater out of water.
- The HMH family overview describes freshwater and marine use but requires water above 150 ppm TDS. This family condition does not establish a fish-specific temperature or water-care recommendation.
Limits to weigh
- The manual’s 10-gallon lower boundary matters, but the current volume rule checks only a maximum. HMH-50S therefore remains reference-only instead of appearing as a possible match for a smaller tank; this page does not certify fit for an individual aquarium.
- The maker’s 10–20 US-gallon range is a sizing statement, not a heating guarantee for a particular room, tank cover, target temperature or livestock. The stated display accuracy is not a measured tank-water tolerance.
- The manual’s 0.45 A at 115 V does not give a complete unit voltage/frequency rating. No individual current HMH-50S retail SKU/UPC, exact seller package or current offer was established in the reviewed Shop sources.
- The 2026-11-01 Shop collection and HMH search did not surface an exact offer, but their bounded omissions are not a discontinuation finding. The saved product-specific Amazon request returned HTTP 503 before identity-bearing results; that access failure does not show that a listing is absent. No exact Amazon listing or package is verified.
- No wattage-specific HMH-50S product/package photo is verified. The ordinary review uses an official HMH-family visual with a family-scope caption; it is not presented as an exact HMH-50S assembly.
Check before ordering
- Check that the offer, selected variation and carton explicitly identify Finnex HMH-50S / 50 W. Do not treat HMH-100S, HMS-50S or a generic Finnex titanium-heater result as the same configuration.
- Read the actual unit’s full voltage and frequency nameplate before electrical use. The manual’s 0.45 A at a 115 V reference is not a complete supply rating.
- Confirm the actual seller package and instructions for the HMH integrated tube-sensor design and controller. Compare the 6.70-inch tube and listed cord lengths with the intended installation; the family visual does not identify a 50 W package.
- Check the tank against the full 10–20 US-gallon band, including its 10-gallon lower edge, and check water TDS against the family page’s above-150-ppm condition rather than relying on freshwater/marine wording alone.
- Follow the exact HMH manual for full immersion, raised sensor-junction placement, water movement, acclimation, GFCI and drip loop. Remember that the low-water warning system is disabled below 58°F and above 92°F.
